June 5, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 21 Waldwick honors its war dead and veterans Waldwick honored veterans and remembered those who gave their lives for our country on Memorial Day with a parade and services sponsored by the VFW and American Legion. On a picture perfect day, community, school, and civic organizations came out to march as a large crowd of flag-waving residents cheered them on. At top left, Grand Marshal and Gold Star Mother June Augusta, whose son Sergeant Eric Hernandez gave his life while serving in Iraq on Dec. 4, 2007, bid a fond farewell to the town as she prepares to move out of Waldwick, and expressed the hope that the community would continue to support the One Box One Soldier program, which she spearheaded. Veteran Tanis listens to services from the bench by the clock, unable to walk all the way to the public safety building where services were held; at top right, resident veterans stand at attention in a place of honor during services.
