Homespun event Allendale’s John Fell House recently participated in the Third Annual History Day of the Northwest Bergen Coalition. This year, the theme was Homespun History featuring quilts, coverlets, samplers, and other homemade items, many of which were on display at the John Fell House. Seen here is a quilt made by Sophie Storms Yeomans, the wife of Hopper Yeomans who, from 1900 to 1915, owned a butcher shop located in the Guatelli building in downtown Allendale at the corner of West Allendale Avenue and Myrtle Avenue. The Yeomans lived in Upper Saddle River, and Hopper’s uncle lived in Allendale and built the Allendale Hotel across from Hop’s butcher shop. Seen here are Pat Finn of the Concerned Citizens of Allendale (the non-profit organization that now owns and operates the John Fell House) and Ed Hook, descendant of the Yeomans and member of the Franklin Lakes Historical Society, along with one of Sophie’s quilts and her photograph.
