Borough Administrator Gary Kratz said last week he had filed insurance claims on the expenses incurred by the municipality, but that based on previous programs, he did not expect any checks in the mail for six to eight months. He said the ultimate reimbursement on whatever claims are Officials hopeful about FEMA reimbursement accepted would only be 75 cents on the dollar. He said claims to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Aid) added up to $10,000-$12,000. Other costs were for Department of Public Works clean up operations and police overtime. Included in this, he said, was the cost for police patrols stationed at gas stations to direct traffic and keep order during the blackout. The shortage of available gas resulted in long lines and, at times, drivers’ tempers flaring. Councilman Don Sciolaro, the borough’s representative to the Joint Insurance Fund, said that JIF officials had expressed confidence that FEMA would cover most of the costs related to the storm, rather than having the joint fund have to absorb them.
