This program will be held at the Wyckoff Reformed Church located at 580 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The doors will open at 10 a.m. and the program will begin at 11 a.m. This event will include a book signing, refreshments, and a Spring Plant Sale featuring a tote ‘n go combo. Gabriel to lead local ensemble The Ridgewood Concert Band will welcome Col. Arnald Gabriel, conductor emeritus, The United States Air Force Band, to the podium during the RCB’s Feb. 1 concert in Ridgewood. Col. Gabriel had a distinguished 36-year military career and, upon his retirement, was awarded his third Legion of Merit for service to the U.S. Air Force and to music education throughout the country. As guest conductor, he will lead the RCB in the performance of Julie Giroux’s “Italian Rhapsody,” a collection of Italian folk songs and operatic excerpts. Also joining the RCB will be guest soloist SFC Sam Kaestner (U.S. Military Academy Band, West Point) on bass clarinet. The concert will be held at West Side Presbyterian Church at 6 South Monroe Street in Ridgewood. The Westwood High School Band will open with a prelude performance at 7:30 p.m. and the RCB program will begin at 8 p.m. Additional information about the performers, conductors, musicians, and program can be found at www.ridgewoodband.org. Glied to discuss health care reform Dr. Sherry Glied, a nationally recognized health care authority, will discuss the ramifications of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act at a Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce special luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 7. This program will be held at noon at the Hilton Woodcliff Lake, 200 Tice Boulevard in Woodcliff Lake. This luncheon is being sponsored by UHY Employee Benefits Consulting Services, Inc. Glied holds three degrees in economics. She received a BA from Yale, an MA from University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. from Harvard. Glied is the author of “Chronic Condition,” which details the subject of health care reform. She has been elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Social Insurance, and the Board of Academy Health. In addition, Peruvian adventure Eight Bergen Catholic High School students and two administrators recently took a seven-day trip to Canto Grande, Peru to help the citizens in one of the impoverished areas of that country. The students built a house and visited schools and senior citizen centers during their stay. Wyckoff Y sets 18th Annual Ladies Night The Wyckoff Y’s 18th Annual Ladies Night will be held at Seasons in Washington Township at 6:30 p.m. on March 7. This event will include great food, music, karaoke, dancing, and baskets filled with prizes. The cost is $60 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, wine, beer, and dessert. All proceeds will directly benefit the Y’s scholarship fund. The Y is also in need of donations of prizes to be included in the baskets. All donors will receive recognition (continued on page 26)
