Waldwick January 23, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Waldwick High School Principal Kevin Carroll has been nominated by a fellow Bergen County high school principal as a candidate to receive the Digital Principal Award from the National Association of Secondary School Principals. According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patricia Raupers, Carroll truly embodies all of the key components expressed in the National Educational Technology Standards for school administrators and has been the district’s leader in promoting the integration of technology in the instructional process in his five year tenure as WHS’s principal. “He is very committed to the integration of technology into the instructional process believing that it accomplishes numerous goals, including increasing the active engagement of students and preparing them for the future. The new national Common Core Curriculum demands technological literacy as do the NJ Curriculum Standards and Mr. Carroll has long supported those mandates. He also sees technology as a great way to communicate with his fellow Carroll nominated for national Digital Principal Award educators and with the parents of his students,” Dr. Raupers commented at a recent board of education meeting. She added that he also maintains a ‘Principal’s Blog’, sends Twitter messages, emails, and maintains communication via the school website. The superintendent noted that Carroll promotes a shared vision of how technology can be a major force in the transformation of education by leading by example and by promoting risk taking among the faculty and students. She said that he models the use of innovative approaches and that he worked diligently to deliver on-line open grade book daily updates for students and parents. “He has promoted the use of cell phone technology in classrooms for a variety of purposes, used on-line surveys as a form of needs assessment for students, parents, and the faculty, and he has supported technology purchases for all departments to enhance both faculty and student presentations and the processing of information by his students,” Dr. Raupers added. In addition to being a strong proponent of increasing student learning and responsibility by engaging students in the use of appropriate technological tools, Dr. Raupers said that Carroll has been dedicated to facilitating workshops for other district educators through the Waldwick Professional Development Academy. As a member of the district’s Professional Development Committee (PDC) and as part of that service, he conducts on-line surveys to determine faculty needs.
