K-8 board of education has no changes for 2013
by John Koster Lisa Duncan will remain president of the Allendale Board of Education for 2013 and Mark McAuliffe will remain vice president for the New Year. “The Allendale Board of Education embraces the goal of high-quality education for all New Jersey public school students,” Duncan said at last week’s reorganization meeting. “New Jersey can take pride in its schools, which rank among the nation’s best in indicators such as class size, college entrance exam participation, and Advanced Placement offerings and test scores.” Endorsing School Board Recognition Month as part of a state-wide initiative, Duncan said, “School board members provide countless hours of service to their communities and strive to provide the resources necessary to meet the needs of all students. That is why our board is joining in efforts to recognize the efforts of these volunteers throughout the state.” By state statute, the 4,800 board of education members in New Jersey serve without pay, though their numbers make them the largest group of public officials in the state. Reelected Board President Duncan and Todd Fliegel will serve on the Budget and Finance Committee. McAuliffe and John Geraghty will serve on the Negotiations Committee. Duncan and Natalie Capano will serve on the Education Committee, Geraghty and Duncan on the Buildings and Grounds Committee, McAuliffe and
Capano on the Technology Committee, Capano and Fliegel on the Policy Committee, and Fliegel and Capano on the Strategic Planning Committee. The board conducted a regular meeting after the reorganization, and awarded a contract of $23,300 for asphalt abatement at the Hillside School to Four Strong Builders Inc.
