WBSA registration under way Registration for the Waldwick Baseball/Softball Association’s 2013 season is now under way. The program is open to Waldwick boys in kindergarten through eighth grade, and Waldwick girls in kindergarten through ninth grade. Children age four to kindergarten are invited to join the “Little Sluggers League.” This instructional program offers preschoolers the chance to learn the game and have fun. Kindergarten registration announced Registration for the September 2013 full-day kindergarten program in Waldwick Public Schools will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 9 a.m. at Julia A. Traphagen School and at Crescent School. To be eligible for the September 2013 full-day kindergarten class, children must be five on or before Oct. 1, 2013. Parents or guardians must bring the following to registration: a child’s birth certificate or other proof of age, and two documents to prove residency. Acceptable proofs of residency include utility bills with name and address, and a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. Proof of a completed physical and eye examination after Sept. 1, 2012, and written documentation of the month, day, and year of all required immunizations must also be brought to registration. Students entering Waldwick’s full-day kindergarten will be screened in the spring. Registration forms are available on the district’s website, www.waldwick.k12.nj.us, under each school’s website. Parents of private school kindergarteners who are planning to attend Waldwick Public Schools for first grade in September are asked to register their children by Jan. 25. WCA announces Wine Tasting The Waldwick Community Alliance will hold its Annual Wine Tasting benefit on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Guardian Angel R.C. Church in Allendale. The event will feature over 100 wines, craft beers, cheeses, hors d’oeuvres, gourmet chocolates, and prizes. The wine selection will be provided by Maratene’s Fine Wines and Spirits in Waldwick. Tickets are $45 per adult, and may be purchased at waldwickcommunityalliance.org or by calling (201) 873-8919. All of the proceeds and 20 percent of the wine sales from the event will benefit the restoration of the Waldwick Train Station. The WCA is also offering tickets for its Dream Vacation Contest. Participants may purchase tickets at $20 each for an opportunity to win $3,000 toward a dream vacation anywhere in the world. Church holds Coat Drive The Waldwick United Methodist Church located at 25 Franklin Turnpike will continue to collect winter coats for friends in need at CUMAC. Pet license renewal to begin in January The Borough of Waldwick’s pet license renewal process is under way. The fee is $16 for a spayed/neutered dog or cat, and $19 for an unaltered pet. Applications are available at www.waldwickpd.org under municipal forms. All licenses and tags will be mailed to the resident’s home. Neill Hartley Neill Hartley, of the American Historical Theatre, will present an interactive, one-man interpretation of Washington Irving’s classic story of Ichabod Crane’s fateful encounter with the Headless Horseman at the Waldwick Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 19. The program will begin at 2 p.m. In addition to telling of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” Hartley will present a discussion of the 19th century author. Hartley, a professional actor, serves on the faculty of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. His previous appearances at the library include the roles of Sherlock Holmes, FDR, P.T. Barnum, and Charles Lindbergh. The program is free and open to the public, but space Art aids cause ‘Sunset at Bar Harbor’ is one of the works by Waldwick resident Bob Rizzotti that will be exhibited at the Ridgewood Library through Jan. 30. The exhibit includes colorful sunrises, sunsets, and landscapes of many U.S. states and European countries.
