Tim Chaney was sworn in last week as the newest member of the Waldwick Police Department, bringing the force to 19 members. Chaney, who was the top scorer in the Civil Service examination statewide, has been working as a telecommunications operator in the local police department for the past six months. He will be paid $39,439 and began attending the Passaic County Police Academy last week. He replaces Patrolman David Laski, who retired after 25 years on the force. “I am very pleased with his appointment,” commented Lt. Edward Weber. Over the past six months, he has shown coolness under pressure and made appropriate decisions. I am glad he is coming aboard,” Lt. Weber added. Chaney, a Bergenfield resident, lived in Waldwick from 2009 to 2011, and is a graduate of Bergenfield High School and the Lincoln Institute. Prior to his position with the Waldwick Police, he was an electronics expert with JMG Audio & Video. In other action, the borough council appointed Thomas Zachmann as a telecommunications operator trainee to replace Chaney effective Feb. 25. He will be paid $27,500 plus a $1,500 stipend for also serving as an EMT.
