The 7:30 p.m. program will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet on Monday, Feb. 25 in the Cavallini Middle School media center at 392 West Saddle River Road. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. Spring Tennis Clinics offered Registration for the Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission’s Spring Tennis Clinics will take place at borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road, weekdays from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. Two five-week sessions will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Wickersham Tennis Courts. The first session will begin the week of March 25, with no lessons the week of school break. The second session will begin the week of May 6. SRVJCO teams up with Habitat for Humanity The Saddle River Valley Jewish Community Organization and Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County will join together in building a unique, energy-efficient design project for low-income families in Oradell. The SRVJCO is now seeking volunteers. Build dates are scheduled for March 19 through 21 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteer spots will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, and do not need to have prior building experience. Tools will be provided. The SRVJCO will be collecting $18 per builder, which will be donated directly to Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County. The SRVJCO is a non-profit organization serving the Saddle River Valley area. School joins Threes for Sandy Hook benefit The Rebels girls’ basketball team from the Saddle River Day School will play the Nighthawks from Newtown High School in Connecticut in a Feb. 24 benefit game. The contest will be held at noon in the Bill Bradley Sports and Recreation Center at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah. The Rebels have joined Threes for Sandy Hook, a fundraising program created by Newtown. For every three-point shot made by a player, a $3 donation will be made to a fund that will be used for the community of Newtown. The team has reached out to schools and teams throughout the area. To date, over 500 players in nine programs from New Jersey and New York are participating. Prior to the game, the participating schools will join in a clinic on the court with the Rebels and Nighthawks players. The doors will open at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free, but the suggested donation at the door is $5 for children and $10 for adults. A special ceremony with dignitaries from New Jersey and Connecticut, including Newtown First Selectman E. Patricia Llodra, will take place at halftime. Members of local churches are invited to a Book Discussion Series. The group will examine Adam Hamilton’s “Why? Making Sense of God’s Will” at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 28, at BHUMC. On March 7 and 21, the discussion will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Archer United Methodist Church at 37 East Allendale Avenue in Allendale. On Maundy Thursday, March 28, BHUMC will offer a reenactment of the Last Supper at 7:30 p.m. This program will be held at BHUMC and include the congregations of the United Methodist churches in Park Ridge, Waldwick, and Allendale. Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church offers a special sermon series during Lent. “Get Real: Removing the Masks We Hide Behind” will be presented at 11 a.m. on Sundays through March 17. During Holy Week, services will be held on Palm Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m., and on Holy Thursday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Lenten Prayer Vigil on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. On March 31, the Easter Sunday service will be held at 11 a.m. Bergen Highlands is located at 318 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club, established in 1969, welcomed 17 new members in January, and another eight during a recent candlelight ceremony held at Savini Restaurant. Club President Denise Mercier noted that, in 2012, club hosted four successful fundraisers, two club member socials, eight “Mommy & Me” socials, 10 community outreach efforts, and six baby dinners for the club’s new moms and their families.
