This romantic comedy is about knowing who you are and showing what you’ve got. Local landscaper hosts pet food benefit Borst Landscape & Design, headquartered in Allendale, recently held a Pet Food Drive through Companion Animal Advocates, a Bergen County charity whose mission is to keep pets with their families. The drive resulted in employees, clients, and the community donating more than 75 pounds of new unopened dog/cat food and treats. All of the pet food that was collected was donated to CAA’s Operation Feed-A-Pet program that has donated more than 152,690 pounds of pet food or 381,725 bowls of food to the clients of the Center for Food Action in Mahwah, Ringwood, and Saddle Brook and the Social Service Association of Ridgewood and Vicinity, Inc. Republican council candidates sought Two Allendale Council seats will be available this year, and candidates for the June primary election are now being sought. Interested candidates should provide a brief biography and statement as to their interest and qualifications for a council seat. Applicants must be registered Republicans. Allendale adopts salary ordinance by John Koster Allendale’s salary ordinance for borough employees was adopted last week at a council meeting that was moved to accommodate Valentine’s Day celebrations. Top staffers on the totem pole are Police Chief George Scherb at $144,840 and Borough Engineer John Yakimik at $144,500. Yakimik was hired away from Dewberry, the consulting firm he worked for until late last year, and now works directly for the Borough of Allendale. Dewberry will remain on hand for major projects. Gwen McCarthy, borough clerk and administrative officer, will receive $95,753 for her joint responsibilities. Her joint position was created when Allendale did away from the position of borough administrator some years ago to save on a salary and insurance. Alissa Mayer, the chief financial officer, will receive $78,000. Angela Mattiace will receive $41,919 as tax assessor. She holds a similar post in another town. Jeffrey Picinich receives $88,426 as superintendent of the Allendale Water Utility. John Wittekind receives several salaries for his various construction-relayed jobs with Allendale: $33,569 as construction sub-code official, $2,239 for building sub-code official, another $2,239 as plumbing sub-code official, $5,818 as zoning and property maintenance official, and $895 as fire sub-code official. He also holds a similar post in another town. Judge Harry D. Norton receives $12,852 for the parttime post of municipal magistrate and Attorney Richard Rosa receives $4,908 for the part-time post of borough prosecutor. Ernest Cassidy receives $4,272 for the post of fire prevention official. Crossing guards will receive $18 per hour.
