Page 16 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • February 13, 2013 Allendale Notebook Integrated Preschool Program available The Allendale School District will hold an Open House for parents interested in the district’s Integrated Preschool Program for the 2013-14 school year. The Open House will be held Friday, Feb. 15 from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at Hillside School, and will allow participants to learn about the program, meet the staff, and visit the classroom setting. The Integrated Preschool Program incorporates the education of general education preschoolers with preschoolers who have special needs. The teachers are certified in both general and special education. Students with special needs are placed in the program through an evaluation process performed by the office of special services. Two programs will be offered for the 2013-14 school year. A program for three-year-olds will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Students must be three years old by Oct. 1. The program for four-year-olds will be offered from 12:30 to 3 p.m. and students must be four by Oct. 1. All children in the program will attend five half-days per week. Class size is expected to be held at a maximum of 12 students per program. Children accepted to this program must be toilet trained. Tuition for a general education child is $3,200. A deposit of $320 is due by July 1. Tuition may be paid monthly. Applications for general education students are available at www.allendaleschoolsnj.com/hillside and will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Parents will be notified of acceptance into the IPS Program by March 1. Transportation services are not provided to general education students. A birth certificate, copy of immunizations, a medical exam, and proof of Allendale residency will be required of those students admitted to the program. Please note that students enrolled in the 2013-14 program for three-year-olds will be offered first choice for enrollment in the 2014-15 program for four-year-olds. Free museum passes available The Lee Memorial Library, located at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale, has free passes for the American Museum of Natural History and the Montclair Museum in Montclair available to Allendale patrons. Each family is allowed up to four passes into the American Museum of Natural History. A deposit is not required. To obtain passes for the Montclair Museum, a $40 deposit is required when a pass is picked up. The deposit is refunded when the pass is returned. Two passes are available. Nursery school holds registration Archer Cooperative Nursery School is accepting registrations for its Mommy & Me, two-and-a-half-year-old, three-year-old, and pre-K and kindergarten enrichment programs. Archer provides an innovative, age-appropriate curriculum with small class sizes and exceptional staff. The school is based on the cooperative preschool philosophy that the best introduction to school for young children provides a space for their parents to be present and involved. Interested individuals are invited to sign up for the Bergen County OEM’s spring 2013 CERT training program. Classes will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and run weekly through April 10 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute in Mahwah. The CERT program includes training in disaster preparedness, medical operations, fire suppression, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, terrorism awareness, and animal preparedness. This year, the program has been expanded to include training for County Animal Response Team certification. CART training will begin April 17 and continue weekly through May 15. Participation in CART is encouraged, but is not required as part of CERT training. Lenten events, Holy Week services set Highlands Presbyterian Church will begin its Lenten observances. The church’s traditional soup and bread suppers will start on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the Ash Wednesday worship service. These suppers will continue every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through March 20, followed by the study series Living into Lent. The program was developed by Presbyterian theologian, educator, and author Donald McKim. Those interested in attending are asked to bring a soup bowl and spoon and join the group for warm fellowship. An offering will be taken up for the church’s mission treasury. During Holy Week, a seder will be held on Maundy Thursday, March 28, at 6 p.m. The Good Friday service on March 29, will be held at 8 p.m. On March 31, the Easter Sunday service will begin at 10 a.m. Highlands Presbyterian Church is located at 270 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale.
