He attended Drew Theological School, where he earned two master’s degrees. He served churches in Clifton, Maplewood, and Franklin Lakes, and in Spring Valley and New City, New York. He was also a district superintendent. He was a member of the liturgical organization, the Order of Saint Luke. He was a retreat leader and taught watercolor classes. He had several exhibitions of his work. He was active in CUMAC, a food pantry in Paterson. He helped his wife Gail run a guest home in Ocean City. He is survived by his wife, his children Mark, Kathleen, Paul, and Peter, and 12 grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Van EmburghSneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Memorial donations may be made to Archer Methodist Church in Allendale, or CUMAC in Paterson. Helen Marshall, nee Szymanski, of Ho-Ho-Kus and Palm City, Florida, died Jan. 22. She was 94. She was a member of the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors, and had been active with her children’s and grandchildren’s schools. She is survived by her son Edward Marshall Jr. of Ho-Ho-Kus, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Edward J. Marshall Sr., and her daughters Geraldine Spaeder and Patricia Marshall. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. James B. McCoy of Lebanon, formerly of Old Tappan and Allendale, died Jan. 24. He was 90. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the borough clerk in Carlstadt and pioneered the HMDC. He served on the New Jersey Economic Development Committee. In later years, he owned Jim’s Place in Carlstadt. He is survived by his children Madeline Neu, James McCoy, and Maureen DiJanni, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and his sister Louise Kondratick. He was a federal employee of the Veteran’s Administration. He was a member of the Chorus of the Tappan Zee’s Rockland and Ridgewood chapters, the Cavaliers of Harmony, Party of Five, and the Second Reformed Church Choir. He is survived by his mother Ligia Moreth of Orange, Virginia, his siblings Elisabeth Moreth of Palmyra, Virginia, Lawrence Dilworth of Oak Hill, Virginia, and Andrew Dilworth of San Jose, California. Nora O’Connell, nee Joyce, of Ramsey, formerly of Northvale, died Jan. 30. She was 87. She was born in Carheenlea, County Galway, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1950. She was a registered nurse, having trained at the Mater Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. She held many positions during her career, including town nurse and school nurse at Saint Anthony’s in Northvale, pediatric nurse at Saint Francis in Jersey City, and Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, and as charge nurse at the German Masonic Home in Tappan, New York. She is survived by her husband James O’Connell, her children John O’Connell of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, James O’Connell of Bridgewater, Kevin O’Connell of Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Maureen Kane of Ramsey, and nine grandchildren. James John Sirubi Jr. of Allendale died Jan. 26. He was 52. He was a graduate of Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck where he received his bachelor’s of science in marketing, and earned his MBA. He has been a vice president for First Fidelity Bank in Park Ridge, and later a partner at Broadstreet Trading in Jersey City, then in Westwood. He was currently self-employed as a private investor. He is survived by his wife Mary (nee Desch), his daughters Nicole, Danielle, and Alexa, his mother Dolores (nee Lowe) Sirubi, his sister Patty Ross, and 15 nieces and nephews. She graduated from Ramsey High School in 1941, and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in New York until her marriage to Edwin Smith on February 4, 1945. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary 8867 in Bricktown until the death of her husband Edwin in 1975. In 1982, she married Edmund Stinavage. She is survived by her husband Edmund Stinavage, her children William T. Smith and Donna Boutelle, and four grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Clymer Funeral Home in Palm Coast, Florida. Jean P. Stewart of Lakewood, formerly of Ramsey, died Jan. 29. She was 85. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, New York. She was a member Nora O’Connell of Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She worked as a sales and floor manager at Lord and Taylor in Paramus. She is survived by her husband James J. Stewart, her children James of Ramsey and Susanne Stewart of Warwick, New York, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Betty Reinhardt of Stony Brook, New York. John Veleber of Roscoe, New York, formerly of Ridgewood and Weeke Watchi, Florida, died Jan. 28. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. Before retiring in 1993, he was employed with Pilgrim Bank in Cedar Grove. His career in the banking industry spanned 40 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood. He is survived by his wife Hilda S. (Emker) Veleber, his children Sue Baumgartner, Kathy Harper, and John Veleber, four grandchildren, and his sisters Sue, Anne, and Mary. He was predeceased by his daughter Debra Gilligan. Weber of Cooperstown, New York, formerly of Waldwick, died Jan. 28. She was 82. She was a member of the Waldwick Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a communicant of Saint Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, and of Saint Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Cooperstown and served as a volunteer at the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She earned an associate degree to serve as a home health aide. She is survived by her husband Jack Weber of Cooperstown, her children Nancy Tallman of Fly Creek, New York, Christy Soell of Allendale, and Ron Weber of New Paltz, New York, eight grandchildren, and several cousins.
