Saddle River Valley
Come share in some recent history on Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m. when former Upper Saddle River Mayor Dit Panfile will return to the borough for a visit. The program will be held at Upper Saddle River Borough Hall, 376 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Panfile will be joined by current Mayor Joanne Minichetti and former Mayors Nicholas Rotonda and Ken Gabbert for a panel discussion. Frank Grout was not able to attend.
USR Historical Society to hold program on mayors
Panfile, who was mayor from 1980 to 1983, will be presenting the Upper Saddle Historical Society with a 1910 ballot box he restored. Panfile is currently living in Illinois, but is coming to New Jersey to deliver the ballot box. The Upper Saddle River Historical Society decided to put together a meeting in honor of his visit. The session will be recorded for the Upper Saddle River Historical Society’s oral history files.
Seven Republican candidates filed for the June 4 primary, but at press time, only four remained: Ronald A. Gray, Corinne Kerner, Rebecca Rogers, and Elizabeth Salazer. Incumbent Councilwoman Karen Mastriano and Jerry DeCrosta and Joanne Kakaty filed by the April 1 deadline, but have since pulled out of the race. Incumbent Councilman Dr. Warren Boardman opted not to run for reelection this year and did not file a petition. No Democrats filed for their party’s primary.
Field of candidates narrows to four
The two successful candidates in the GOP’s June contest will seek voters’ endorsement in the November general election. Two three-year seats on the council are available this year. Editor’s Note: Villadom TIMES provides biographies of local mayor and council candidates as a public service. All candidates are invited to submit biographical information and brief statements to editorial@villadom.com on or before Wednesday, May 22. That information will be included in the May 29 edition.
Dit Panfile, shown in 1980, will be returning to Upper Saddle River to participate in an oral history project for the Upper Saddle River Historical Society.
