The church will accept donations of furniture, electronics, household goods, books, antiques and collectibles, artwork, jewelry, sporting equipment, tools, baby and children’s clothing, toys and games, and seasonal flowers and flat screen TVs from April 28 through May 3. A donation pickup service will be available through May 2. The following items are not being accepted: VHS tapes, vinyl records, computer hardware and software, printers, outdated electronic equipment, stereos and speakers, VCRs and DVD players, car seats, fake plants and trees, refrigerators, shoes, women’s and men’s clothing, skis and ski boots. Library to host Steve Henry The Lee Memorial Library, located at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale, will host a lecture with authorillustrator Steve Henry. “Picture This: An Illustrator’s Guide to Creating a Children’s Book from First Sketch to Publication” will be held April 23 at 7 p.m. This program was rescheduled due to a late winter snowstorm. Residents who attend will get a first look at Henry’s original art for his forthcoming book, “Happy Cat,” enjoy a question and answer session, and learn what it takes to get published in today’s market. Fell House Friends hold Open House Friends of the Historic John Fell House invite the community to an Open House on April 22 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Attendees may tour the house, learn its history, and hear the Concerned Citizens of Allendale’s vision and plans for the future. The CCA will include an overview of past events, and preview some great coming attractions. Light refreshments will be served. Concerned Citizens of Allendale is a 501c3 non-profit that owns, operates, and maintains the house and surround- ing three acres of property. The CCA is now celebrating the third year anniversary of the purchase of the house, and commemorating the 236th anniversary of the arrest and imprisonment of John Fell by a band of Loyalist raiders. Dedicated to restoring and preserving this historic landmark while educating the public concerning its amazing history, the CCA encourage all those interested in this historic place to get involved. Anyone with a skill or interest in local and American history, landscaping, interior decorating, education, the environment, public relations, marketing, or business can join one of the organization’s committees, or help out at events. Club sells spring flowers The Allendale Woman’s Club’s Annual Geranium/ Impatiens Sale is now under way and will continue through April 20. This year, geraniums are available in red, white, light pink, dark pink, and splash (pink and white). Impatiens are available in red, white, and light pink. The cost is $38 per dozen, and $24 for a half dozen. The minimum order required of each variety is a half dozen. Fell House to host Mother Daughter Tea Join the Fell House Team Committee on April 27 from noon to 2:30 p.m. for a Mother Daughter Spring Afternoon Tea in the tradition of Lady Anna Maria Russell Stanhope, Duchess of Bedford. The event will be held in the historic Fell House located at 475 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. The Duchess, lifelong friend of Queen Victoria, is credited with evolving the Afternoon Tea from a simple meal to the social event of the day. Attendees will be transported back to the early 1800s as they enjoy a three course meal with appetizers, tea sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves, and dessert all prepared by the Passport Café of West Milford. Rotary offers scholarships The Allendale/Saddle River Rotary Foundation will award two scholarships of $1,500 each to high school seniors from Allendale, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River, or Waldwick who will be attending a four-year college in the fall. Register for Junior Football & Cheerleading Registration for the Northern Highlands Junior Football Association’s tackle, flag, and cheerleading teams may be made online at http://leaguelineup.com/nhjfa. Registration will remain open until April 26. The tackle football season runs from Aug. 12 through the middle of November. Last year, all three “A” teams for the Bulldogs won their divisions and made the playoffs. Two of the teams played in the Super Bowl, and the Pee Wees won the championship. The program is sponsored by the USR Recreation Commission.
