The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the media center at the Cavallini Middle School located at 392 West Saddle River Road. Garden Club offers scholarship The Saddle River Garden Club will award a $1,000 academic scholarship to a qualified applicant. In order to be eligible, a student must be a resident of northern Bergen County and must be planning to study environmental sciences, conservation, architectural design, horticulture, or botany. The application deadline is June 1. Reid to discuss garden mistakes Dale Reid will be the guest speaker at the Saddle River Garden Club’s April 16 meeting. Annual Boutique Night set The Saddle River Valley Jewish Community Organization will hold its Annual Boutique Night on Wednesday, May 8 at the Apple Ridge Country Club in Mahwah. Tennis permits available Tennis permits for the use of the Upper Saddle River Tennis Courts are now available at borough hall, 376 West Saddle River Road, and at the courts, which are located on West Saddle River Road in front of Reynolds School. Those who purchase permits at the courts should ask for Tennis Pro Sharron Mattiace. A family membership is $40 and an individual membership is $25. All residents must have a permit and must display that permit on the new sign up board located at the entrance to the courts. Fishing Derby announced The Upper Saddle Recreation Commission will host its Annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 4 at Liberty Park. The event will be held between 9 a.m. and noon. All Upper Saddle River residents, ages five and up, are invited to bring their fishing poles and bait. Bucky Rehain will be hand to offer assistance to participants during the derby. Rehain will walk around the pond and provide answers to many questions about various fish and wildlife issues. USR Cleanup Day announced Individuals, families, teams, and organizations are invited to Upper Saddle River’s Town-wide Cleanup Day: Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. This event is being sponsored by the Upper Saddle River Recreation Commission. Participants should check in at Lions Park anytime between 8 a.m. and noon. Volunteers will be assigned (or may choose) an area to clean. Areas include: Lions Park, Hess Park, and school grounds. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Coffee, juice, and doughnuts will be available. Please note that participating children must be supervised by an adult. This year, representatives from the Upper Saddle River Green Team will be on hand to promote the “Make it Count!” recycling program. Parent group hosts program Ann Marie Agnello will discuss “Key Points of the IEP Process and Strategies for Parents” on Monday, April 22. Agnello’s appearance was arranged by the support group for Ramsey and Saddle River parents of children with special needs. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 55 Wyckoff Avenue in Ramsey. Agnello, a child advocate at Advocacy for Complaint Education, LLC, holds a B.A. in psychology from Douglass College. She received a fellowship to the Developmental Psychology Doctoral Program at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She obtained years of advocacy training through various sources, such as Parent Information Center and SPAN, and legal workshops. Since 1997, she has been a full-time advocate involved with the various aspects of the IEP process and 504 Plans. She also represents parents in mediation and resolution sessions. Post office (continued from page 4) reintroducing the legislation. Staff Sergeant Joseph D’Augustine was killed in action in the Helmand province of Afghanistan on March 27, 2012. A 2001 Waldwick High School graduate, was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group out of Camp Lejeune, NC and was a specialist trained to dismantle bombs and land mines. D’Augustine was on his fourth tour of duty overseas and his second in Afghanistan.
