April 10. 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 37 Saddle River Valley Notes Rotary Club seeks RYLA representatives The Allendale Saddle River Rotary Club is seeking local high school juniors to participate in the Rotary Leadership Award program this summer. RYLA participants attend an all expenses paid, six-day workshop focusing on leadership, community service, and professional development topics. Participants join with other talented young people representing more than 40 diverse communities from Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties to forge a networked community dedicated to the Rotary principles of team, leadership, and service above self. Woman’s club plans events The Woman’s Club of Upper Saddle River will host a Wine Tasting Dinner on Wednesday, April 17. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Savini’s Restaurant, 168 Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Wines will be selected by Maratene’s Wines and Liquors in Waldwick and paired to a five course dinner. The cost is $80 per person. Proceeds will be donated to local charities. On Monday, April 22, the club will hold its 12th Annual Baby Shower. The dinner will be at Savini’s Restaurant, and the cost is $40 per person. Proceeds will benefit Strengthen Our Sisters Shelter. The club is seeking donations of clothes for infants to size 2T, diapers, wipes, bibs, blankets, and other items for the event. Upcoming will be a spring trip to The Cloisters. Club hosts holiday events The Saddle River Valley Residents Club will host a variety of events during April. The Out to Lunch group has planned a gathering for Friday, April 12. A Gracie Mansion Tea Tour will be held April 17. The club will host a social on Tuesday, April 23 in the Upper Saddle River Library’s Adult Solarium at 245 Lake Street. Club members are invited to drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and noon. On April 27, the membership will host its Spring into Summer Ball. The event will be held at the Brownstone in Paterson. Members may check the monthly newsletter for more information. The next Sociable Supper is planned for Saturday, May 18. Other activities sponsored by the organization, which was previously known as the Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club, include a book club, golf, international luncheons, and more. Club to host Fashion Show On April 19, the Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will host a Spring Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. The event will benefit the Upper Saddle River Volunteer Fire Department’s 9/11 Memorial Fund. The fire department’s 9/11 Memorial will include a seven-foot, 1,464-pound piece of steel salvaged from the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The memorial, currently in the design phase, will be built entirely from memorial fund donations. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., show attendees may preview the season’s latest trends. Tickets are $50 and include the show, light fare, and refreshments. The program is open to all, including those who may have departed from formal religious organizations, but remain spiritual. There are no prerequisites and no obligation whatsoever.
