Corps to celebrate 75th Anniversary The Allendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps will celebrate its 75th Anniversary with a Beefsteak Dinner fundraiser on May 4. The 7 p.m. event will be held at the Guardian Angel Church auditorium and will feature live performances by local bands including B SHARP, Red Apple Rest, and The Mid-life Crisis Band. Allendale residents and friends, and members of emergency service organizations in surrounding towns are invited to attend. The event will include prize basket contests and an auction. Tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased in advance. Participants are invited to bring their own beverages. Guardian Angel Church is located at 320 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. Rutgers clinic for coaches available The Allendale Recreation Commission will hold a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Coaches Clinic on April 16 in the cafeteria at Northern Highlands Regional High School. The program will be held from 6:45 to 9:45 p.m. The coaches’ clinic is a required course for volunteer recreation or travel head or assistant coaches in New Jersey. The registration fee is $35 and includes all materials. Registration may be completed online at http://www.sportssignup.com/Allendale-Recreation-Online-Registration.start. Deadline to register is April 9. Northern Highlands is located at 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale. Chamber plans breakfast meeting The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will hold a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, April 9. The group will gather at the Allendale Bar and Grill, 67 West Allendale Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. RSVP to Adrienne Tenbeckjian at (201) 3278411. The Chamber meets the second Tuesday of the month. Spring Fashion Show tickets on sale The Allendale Woman’s Club will host its Spring Fashion Show, “Spring Promise,” at Seasons in Washington
Township on April 3. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a cocktail reception and gourmet dinner, prize gift baskets, and fashions presented by The Figleaf. This year’s event will benefit Family Promise of Bergen County. Family Promise is the only organization in the county helping working families overcome temporary homelessness. ACA seeks candidates The Allendale Civic Association (ACA) is interested in speaking with any resident that would like to run for office in Allendale. The ACA’s mission is to engage citizens in
open discussion of issues relevant to the Borough of Allendale and to encourage and support candidates to run for municipal office who will address these concerns. The organization is committed to open government and a completely non-partisan approach to issues that affect the quality of life for the citizens of the borough. Individuals can be of any political registration. Also, anyone with an issue that relates to Allendale, is asked to bring it to the ACA’s attention for discussion. Bellezza’s Eagle project was the installation and rejuvenation of the Ash Garden in front of Saint Bartholomew’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. He built a stone patio and replaced all the plants around the church. He is a senior at Northern Highlands High School, where he is a member of the Italian Club and a member of the cross country team. He has earned a varsity letter and is going into his second season with spring track as part of the throwing team. He attends Saint Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, and has been as an altar server and an active Youth Group member. Menakis joined Cub Scouts as a second grader and moved on to Troop 54 Boy Scouts. He attended Camp NoBe-Bo-Sco, Floodwood Mountain in the Adirondacks for two summers, and Philmont in New Mexico for 12 days on a 98-mile hike. A member of the Order of the Arrow, he is troop bugler and served as senior patrol leader. He is a senior at Northern Highlands, where he has been a student ambassador. As a varsity basketball player, he has earned Second and First Team All-League honors and served as team captain. At Saint Luke’s Church, he has been both an altar server and lector. For his Eagle project, he renovated the courtyard at Saint Luke’s. The landscaping construction project transformed a sloping hill of lawn into three-tiered stone retaining wall and garden backdrop for special events. Flowers and shrubs were planted along the three tiers. A stone bench and engraved stones were also added to the area. The project was funded by parishioners. Hewitt has been in Troop 54 since 2006, serving in leadership positions including scribe and assistant patrol leader. He attended camp No-Be-Bo-Sco for three years, Floodwood for two years, Philmont Trek to New Mexico in 2010, and Florida Sea Base in 2011. He is a senior at Northern Highlands High, where he was on the freshman soccer team and the cross country team and a member of the Engineering Club. He is a member of the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, where he played in the bell choir for two years. His Eagle project was building and installing 10 bat houses along the paths in the 16 acres of Ho-Ho-Kus to encourage the bat population. Hayward became a Cub Scout in 2004 and later joined Troop 54. He served as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and crew chief at Philmont. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Camps No-Be-BoSco, Floodwood Mountain, Turrell, and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2010. A senior at Northern Highlands, Hayward is a member of the National Honor Society, a student ambassador, Latin Cum Laude, AP Scholar, and an Outstanding Books Club Challenge Member. His Eagle project involved the repair of headstones at a historical cemetery at Zion Lutheran Church in Saddle River, which encompassed 340 service hours.
