Lennox will discuss space travel milestones. The group will gather at 9:30 a.m. in the community room of the church located at 271 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Spring Book Sale announced The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will host its Spring Book Sale on Saturday, April 6. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the library at 245 Lake Street. The shelves are stocked with gently-used fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, and a wide variety of children’s books. There are many CDs, DVDs, a selection of classical LPs, and other audiovisual items. Donations of books and other media maybe dropped off during regular library hours. Club announces events The winners of the Woman’s Club of Upper Saddle River’s 27th Annual Poetry & Essay contests will gather at the Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River, on April 3. The contestants will read their entries beginning at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. On April 4, the club will participate in the Lord & Taylor Spring Benefit Bash. Book discussion groups to meet The Novels at Night book group will discuss Kristen Iversen’s “Full Body Burden” on Wednesday, April 3. The group meets at the Upper Saddle River Library on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. On April 18, the Coffee Talk book group will hold a discussion on Hillary Jordan’s “Mudbound” at 10 a.m. Copies of the books are available at the circulation desk. Club to host Fashion Show On April 19, the Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will host a Spring Fashion Show at Neiman Marcus at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. The event will benefit the Upper Saddle River Volunteer Fire Department’s 9/11 Memorial Fund. The fire department’s 9/11 Memorial will include a seven-foot, 1,464-pound piece of steel salvaged from the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The memorial, currently in the design phase, will be built entirely from memorial fund donations. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., show attendees may preview the season’s latest trends. Tickets are $50 and include the show, light fare, and refreshments. Library offers varied programs Consumer finance expert Rick Feingold will visit the Upper Saddle River Library on April 2 to present a demonstration showing the tricks of the trade for buying and selling on the Internet. The program will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The discussion will include tips on selling household items and cars on Craigslist; selling books, DVDs, and CDs on Amazon; saving 40 to 50 percent on hotels using Hotwire and Priceline; and earning free flights and shopping for new and low-mileage pre-owned cars on the Internet. On Sunday, April 28 the library will hold an antique appraisal from 2 to 4 p.m. Alan Snyder, a certified antiques and estate appraiser from A.G. Snyder & Associates, will be at the library to make the appraisals. Attendees are invited to bring up to two treasures and find out what they are worth. Items may include furniture, silver, jewelry, prints, paintings, photographs, hand tools, and household goods. In addition to the appraisals, Snyder will discuss the current antiques and collectibles marketplace and collecting trends. This program is limited to 40 attendees. Club hosts ‘Treasure Sale’ benefit The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will host its Treasure Sale at the Upper Saddle River Fire Department, 375 West Saddle River Road, on April 27. This sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. American Gold & Diamond Buyers will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of the community are invited to bring their unwanted gold to sell. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera and take photos of their children with an Upper Saddle River fire truck and enjoy the homemade treats that will be sold. Donations of gently-used items in good condition may be dropped off on Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on the morning of the sale at the USR Fire House.
