Three Boy Scouts from Ridgewood’s Troop 7 recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. They are: Benjamin Pastorius, Christopher Salamone, and Daniel Literati. All are currently sophomores at Ridgewood High School and started out as Tiger Cubs in first grade at Ridge School in Ridgewood. Their community service projects involving many members of the troop have included building a dock and landscaping around the pond at Habernickel Family Park in Ridgewood, waterproofing the basement of Ridgewood Community Church in Ridgewood, and refurbishing the Healing Garden at Children’s Aid and Family Services. Their Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held at the Ridgewood Community Church in Ridgewood on June 23.

Benjamin R. Pastorius began his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub in Pack 44 in 2003. He became exposed to many new activities such as camping and hiking. His most memorable experience as a Cub Scout was going to Frost Valley every winter with his pack. He earned his Arrow of Light in February 2008 and joined Troop 7 in March of that year. While in Troop 7, he has held many leadership positions that include assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief, troop guide, and instructor. One of the highlights of his Scouting career was attending the 2010 National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Pastorius’ Eagle Scout project was to fund, design, and build a dock at Habernickel Family Park in Ridgewood and plant a line of bushes to control the amount of geese using the pond. He was able to raise funds and secure the needed materials from private donors and with aid from Fairway Estate Nursery and Home Depot of Paterson. Surplus funds were donated to the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Pastorius has been playing football since third grade, and is now a lineman on the Ridgewood High School Football Team. He also has enjoyed rowing on the Ridgewood Crew Team in the spring for both his freshman and sophomore years. He competed in the DECA business competition with other Ridgewood High School students for the
first time this year and looks forward to competing next year. He enjoys snowboarding, hiking, hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor activities in his free time. He will be attending a hiking trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico this summer with fellow Troop 7 Boy Scouts. Daniel Literati For his community service project, Ridgewood Eagle Scout Daniel Joseph Literati worked to alleviate drainage issues at the Upper Ridgewood Community Church. Literati designed and worked out the project the church,

where his own group, Troop 7, meets and where he is a member. His project was designed to keep water from leaking into the basement. The plan was to re-grade the ground in a large window well so water would be directed toward an existing drain. Roofing membrane was put down over the re-graded surface and attached to the church building to divert water away from the building. Silicone caulk was used to seal the joint between the roofing membrane and (continued on page 10)
