Hauck sets last ‘Let’s Get Acquainted’ Ridgewood residents are invited to join Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck at noon on June 6 for a light lunch and an activity at the final “Let’s Get Acquainted” program. This event will be held in Ridgewood Village Hall’s Anne Zusy Youth Lounge at 131 North Maple Avenue. Long-time residents will discuss village history. Women are encouraged to wear their pearls and white gloves. Men may wear hats for this stroll back in time. Those in need of transportation are encouraged to make arrangements with the senior bus by calling village hall reception at (201) 670-5500, extension 200. Information about taxi coupons is also available at that number. There is no fee to attend the program, but registration is necessary. The noon picnic is open to HILT members. In the event of rain, the picnic will be canceled. On June 20, the group will travel to the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt in historic Hyde Park, New York. The trip includes lunch at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck and a tour of the Wilderstein Mansion, the home of FDR’s “secret friend” Daisy Suckley. The bus will depart from Graydon Pool at 7:30 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m. The cost is $52 for HILT members and $57 for non-members. Monthly meetings include entertainment and informational presentations followed by refreshments. The annual dues are $15 per person. Gallery presents ‘June Paintings’ Artist Adele Grodstein draws, paints, and sculpts. Her work will be on exhibit at the Stable Gallery during the month of June. Grodstein has studied at Syracuse University, The School of Visual Arts, The Brooklyn Museum School, University of California at Northridge, and the Art Center of Northern New Jersey. Her solo exhibits in New York include JCC of Mid-Westchester, Scarsdale and Piermont Fine Arts Gallery, Piermont. Her New Jersey solo shows have included the Edna Kawulitzki Gallery in Tenafly and the Haworth Municipal Library. Grodstein received the juror’s award at the National Association of Women Artists and a juror’s prize at the Perkins Center for the Arts. Her work has been exhibited in the Art Center of Northern New Jersey in New Milford, The Sage Colleges, Albany, and Perdue University Gallery in West Lafayette, Indiana. Call (201) 670-5560. ‘Faith Matters’ at Bethlehem Lutheran The members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ridgewood invite the community to the Faith Matters e-mail series. The entire series may be accessed at www.bethlehemchurch.com/faithmatters. “In the Footsteps of Martin Luther” will continue through July 4, and includes Luther’s Bible-based quotes from 1510-
1530 and historical events and photos of the places Luther lived and preached. The program provides an understanding of Luther’s theology and how it is both similar and different from Roman Catholic teachings and the beliefs of other Protestant faiths. Pastor Robert Kolb, Concordia Seminary professor emeritus and Luther historian, provided direction on the research. The Footsteps message will appear as a brief daily e-mail. It follows a chronological sequence of Luther’s pastoral and professorial life. The year 2017 marks the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Bethlehem Lutheran, located at 155 Linwood Avenue, offers two Sunday services: a contemporary praise service at 8:45 a.m. and a traditional worship at 11 a.m. with Sunday school and Bible class meeting at 10 a.m. The church’s summer worship schedule will begin June 9 with one service at 9:30 a.m. Lego Engineering Camps slated Registration is under way for the Summer Lego Engineering Camps offered by the Ridgewood Parks & Recreation and Play-Well TEKnologies. The pre-engineering camp is open to children in kindergarten through grade two. Participants will build cities, bridges, motorized cars, and planes. With access to over 100,000 LEGO pieces, students build what they dream of with the support of an experienced instructor. Two sessions of Engineering Fundamentals will be offered. Students in grades three through six will explore concepts in physics, architecture, and mechanical and structural engineering, from gear cars to Battletracks. The engineer-designed curriculum challenges new and returning students to reach higher levels of engineering comprehension while having fun. The session runs from 9 a.m. to noon for children in kindergarten through grade two. Students in grades three through six will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $150 per session. Session I - Summer LEGO Camp will meets Monday through Friday, Aug. 12

Teen vegetarian cooking class announced Ridgewood Parks and Recreation will offer a Teen Vegetarian Cooking Class at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, on Aug. 28. Instruction and cooking demonstrations will be provided by natural foods chef and certified holistic health coach Christine M. Okezie. Participants will learn to cook simple and delicious recipes that will help them make healthy vegetarian choices. Teens will also learn how to provide what the body needs when meat is not included in the diet. The class will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $25. Camp seeks art supplies The Ridgewood Day Camp is seeking donations of art supplies. The following items are needed: colored tissue paper, artificial flowers, pipe cleaners, elastic thread, ceramic tiles, shirt cardboards, crepe paper, poster boards, permanent markers, drawing paper, Styrofoam balls, Scrabble tiles, shells, popsicle sticks, lace and ribbon, wooden shapes, beads, wooden plaques, clay flowerpots, plastic lids, snap clothespins, scissors, bottles of acrylic paints, feathers, sand dollars, and small glass bottles. All items may dropped off at The Stable Office located at 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
