May 22, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES II & IV • Page 17 Bob Walton of Wyckoff and Sal Santoro of Rockaway, authors of “Route 66: The People, The Places, The Dream,” are pleased to announce that Jay Leno has selected their book for inclusion in his book club. The authors were recently interviewed by Leno and were given a tour of his extensive personal car collection at Leno’s “Big Dog Garage” in California. The eight-minute interview can be viewed at www.Route66Guys.com. “Route 66: The People, The Places, The Dream,” chronicles the 38 day, 7,292 mile cross-continent adventure Santoro and Walton took in Walton’s 1968 Cadillac De Ville convertible. Their “bucket list” road trip included all 2,448 miles of Historic Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. The feature that distinguishes this book from all others written about “The Mother Road” is that the narrative is written through the eyes of these two first-time Route 66 travelers and invites the reader to experience the fun-filled trip with them as they “live the dream.” The large format book has 260 pages with more than 500 color photos. Most people know Leno as the long-time host of “The Tonight Show.” Auto enthusiasts also know him as a bona fide “car guy” and spokesperson for the collector car hobby. His massive facility contains an array of more than 100 vehicles powered by gasoline, diesel, steam, electricity, solar power, jet engine. and just about anything else that can propel an automobile. Leno’s vehicles cover more than a century of automotive history. There are also several dozen motorcycles in the collection, along with larger than life size automotive artwork depicting period correct advertising. Seeing this fabulous collection, one of the most wide-ranging in the world, was a special treat for Santoro and Walton, especially after the thrill of meeting and being interviewed by Leno.
