House party bust leads to numerous charges
by John Koster The Ridgewood Police Department filed charges against a number of young adults and minors after the police broke up a house party during the early morning hours of May 4. While conducting a motor vehicle stop on that date, Patrolman Greg Carter saw several juveniles fleeing a residence in Ridgewood near the Glen Rock border. The Ridgewood Police Department was notified and discovered two highly intoxicated juveniles at the house. After the Ridgewood and Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps were called in, a total of four intoxicated juveniles were taken to Valley Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of alcohol poisoning. The police discovered that the homeowners were out of town attending a college graduation so they entered the house and issued 15 summonses for underage consumption of alcohol and released 14 juveniles to their parents for liquor offenses, with juvenile charges for underage consumption of alcohol pending. During the incident, two individuals were charged with the obstruction of the administration of law for refusing to comply with officers’ instructions and refusal to provide their names. Police reported that many of the people at the party had been issued wrist bands when they paid an admission fee and that the house was well stocked with liquor. Additional criminal charges are pending. In other police business, three unlocked parked vehicles were entered on May 2 and valued items were removed. One motorist lost a brown North Face backpack and another lost a checkbook and prescriptions. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating these incidents. Police urge all resi-
dents and visitors to lock parked cars and keep valuables out of sight. On May 4, a Stevens Avenue resident reported that someone threw a rock through his car window while he was dropping off a passenger on Warren Place. On May 6, a white adult female reportedly shoplifted a number of bottles of liquor valued comprehensively at $874 when added to the bottles she shoplifted earlier on April 23. She concealed the bottles -- about 20, all told -- in a bag and hid the bag on her person. Police are also investigating a complaint from a Pompton Plains man who reported that $12,193 was charged to his credit card when his credit card information was compromised at Valley Hospital. A Sterling Place resident turned a rusted handgun in to police when the gun was discovered while the resident was tilling the yard. The gun was inoperable.
