As with many older buildings, design proved difficult. Many plans were considered and discarded before members voted in favor of the current design, which provides a lift up to the sanctuary and down to the fellowship hall, a new barrier-free bathroom, and added storage space. The project will be debt-free. This was made possible by selling the church’s parsonage and purchasing a less expensive home for the Stegink family, by designated bequests, and by $86,000 in fundraising through gifts from members and former members and special events including three benefit concerts, one of which featured two members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The project architect is Brian Callahan of Callahan Architecture in Westwood, and the construction manager is David Visbeen of Visbeen Construction in Ridgewood. Construction is expected to continue into the fall. In addition to Beverly, the Project Committee members are Bernie Greenfield, John McCabe, Jim Stegink, and Grace Vermeulen. Gail Beverly, Paul Beverly, and Pastor Mary Stegink break ground for a new entrance added to Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church on Lincoln Avenue. Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church on Lincoln Avenue held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new barrier-free entrance following worship May 5. The addition will be the first major upgrade since the West Side building was erected in 1949. Pastor Mary Stegink read Psalm 127:12 (“unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain…)”, changing “house” to “church,” and then dug the first shovelfuls with Project Chair Gail Beverly, development operations manager for the Capuchin Franciscans in New York City, and husband Paul Beverly, who currently chairs the church’s council. Among the observers were two charter members of the congregation, Claire Chaparian of Waldwick and Jacqueline Kort of Glen Rock. For years, the church has wanted barrier-
