This summer’s programs will be run under the direction of Glen Rock High School varsity coaching staff members. Heads-Up Lacrosse Camp, now in its third season, is run by Tim Bracken, GRHS boys’ head coach and Bergen County and NJSIAA Group 1 Co-Coach of the Year for 2012. The staff includes GRHS assistant coaches Jim Egan and Matt Meade. Boys entering grades three through nine will receive detailed instruction on proper passing, catching, scooping, shooting, and ball handling techniques. They will also participate in drills, activities, games, and scrimmages to increase their understanding of team play. Goalies and faceoff specialists will receive position-specific training. Session 1 will run from July 8 through 12; Session 2 will run from Aug. 5 through 9. Rock Lacrosse Camp for girls is a new venture, run under state club lacrosse and Taryn Tabano, the GRHS girls’ varsity head coach. Assistants will include Ginny Capicchiconi (Team USA), current GRHS assistant coaches, GRHS alumni, and highly qualified players with D1 experience. This camp for girls entering grades two through nine is appropriate for beginners through advanced players. The daily schedule will include skills, drills, and defensive and offensive game strategies. Each day will conclude with game play. This camp will be held July 22 through 25. In addition to the camps, both programs are offering weekly skills clinics. All activities will be held on the new turf athletic fields at GRHS. Rock Softball Camp, run by Varsity Head Coach Kelly Dowell and in its fourth year of operation, is new to GRCS. GRHS softball coaches, joined by varsity players, bring many years of teaching skill development and fundamentals to girls entering grades three through nine. Camp will be held June 24 through 27 on the softball fields at Coleman Elementary School. Rock Sports Camp, under the direction of Head Football Coach/veteran Camp Director Jim Kurz, introduces children entering grades one though six to the fundamentals of a variety of sports along with an array of traditional games designed to provide a balance of cooperative activities and individual skill development. The Glen Rock Community School expands sports camps staff includes experienced physical education teachers, coaches, and current and former Glen Rock star athletes. Session 1 will run June 24 through 28; Session 2 will be held July 1, 2, 3, and 5. The second session is not a duplicate of the first. Back for a second great year is Glen Rock Basketball Academy, a program of Varsity Head Coach Jason Mittelman. Boys entering grades four through nine will participate in morning warm up/workout, offensive and defensive skill stations, team practice and 5-on-5 and 3on-3 games. Camp will be held at GRHS/GRMS July 22 through 26. New this year, Coach Mittelman has added an eight-week co-ed Basketball Boot Camp for players entering grades four through eight. This evening program is designed for basketball players at the intermediate and advanced levels who are looking to further develop their skills during the off season. Coach Bonnie Zimmermann’s popular programs will return to the GRCS this summer: The Volleyball Clinic for girls entering grades six through nine will be held June 24 through 28 in the GRHS gym. Open to players at all levels, the clinic includes instruction focusing on serving, setting, passing, spiking, game strategies, and more. The program runs three hours each day. Tennis Clinic is designed for middle school students to learn the game or sharpen their skills. Meeting for three hours each day, players will work on ground strokes, serving, conditioning, and strategy. Session 1 will run June 24 through 27. Session 2 will run July 8 through 11. Due to the construction of new tennis courts at GRHS, the clinic will be held on the courts at Wilde Memorial Park in Glen Rock. New to the community school is a full day, full week Volleyball Camp under the direction of GRHS Head Coach Matt Kingsley, who has over 20 years of high school and club coaching experience with girls. This camp strives to make each camper successful, whether she is a first time or experienced player. Individual skills and small side games are the basis of the program’s training method. This camp will be held July 15 through 19 at GRHS. TGA Premier Junior Golf Camp is back for its fourth summer in Glen Rock. TGA provides a high-quality golf camp experience for every participant. Professionals teach campers the fundamentals of the game while preparing them for on-course play. Campers will learn the game of golf in a fun, relaxed environment. Camp will be held in four weekly sessions, Monday through Friday, July 8 to Aug. 2, at Coleman Elementary School.
