This year’s grand prize is a 5,500 watt generator. Proceeds from this contest support the borough’s Fourth of July celebration. Library has new Tuesday hours Beginning May 7, the Glen Rock Public Library at 315 Rock Road will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Tuesday hours were previously 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Club sets Plant Sale, program The Glen Rock Garden Club will host its annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11 at the Main Line Railroad Station on Rock Rock. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Sale items include flowers for Mother’s Day gifts, astilbes, peonies, Stella D’oro lilies, tomato plants, rhubarb, hostas, and more. The main attractions are plants the members have grown from seed or propagation. This annual fundraiser supports the club’s beautification and special projects, including the purchase of gardening books for the library and the Plant of the Month program. Edel will present “Container Gardening.” The club will meet at the municipal annex building at 678 Maple Avenue at 7:45 p.m. Edel is a certified Passaic County Master Gardener. Seniors to sponsor trips The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club will host a bus trip to Mount Airy Lodge Casino in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 15. The group will depart from Wilde Park at 9 a.m. The cost of the trip is $28 for members and $30 for non members. Attendees will receive $25 in slots and $10 for food. The day will include a concert featuring the music of Elvis and Patsy Cline, and lunch with a one-hour open bar. Advisory group to meet The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock, chaired by Doris Ciaramella, will meet on Tuesday, May 14. The group will gather at 1:30 p.m. at the municipal building located at Harding Plaza. All are invited. Students invited to discuss Gidwitz novels Middle school students are invited to discuss the Adam Gidwitz novels on May 9. This 4 p.m. program will be held at the Glen Rock Public Library at 315 Rock Road. The discussion is in preparation of Gidwitz’s May 13 visit to Glen Rock Middle School. The author’s books include “A Dark & Grim Tale” and “In a Glass Grimmly.” Copies of his books are available at the reference desk. Library offers computer classes The Glen Rock Library will present two technology classes in May. A class on Microsoft Word will be held on May 14 at 11 a.m. A class on Microsoft Excel is set for May 29 at 7 p.m. Registration is required. Spring tennis lessons offered Registration is now open for the Glen Rock Community School’s annual spring tennis lessons for children. Glen Rock residents in kindergarten through grade eight may register for the four-week series of 45-minute beginner and intermediate classes. Classes, which are taught by Anne Nickles, will meet Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays at the Wilde Memorial Park courts on Maple Avenue. Sessions will begin the week of May 20 and run through the week of June 10. In the event of rain, classes will be held in the gym at Hamilton Elementary School at 380 Harristown Road. Ruthberg, who will celebrate his 91st birthday on May 30, was a World War II pilot who left the U.S. Army Air Force as a first lieutenant.
