Club sets Plant Sale, program The Glen Rock Garden Club will host its annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11 at the Main Line Railroad Station on Rock Rock. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. Sale items include flowers for Mother’s Day gifts, astilbes, peonies, Stella D’oro lilies, tomato plants, rhubarb, hostas, and more. The main attractions are plants the members have grown from seed or propagation. This annual fundraiser supports the club’s beautification and special projects, including the purchase of gardening books for the library and the Plant of the Month program. Edel will present “Container Gardening.” The club will meet at the municipal annex building at 678 Maple Avenue at 7:45 p.m. Edel is a certified Passaic County Master Gardener. Garage and Bake Sale planned The Julia Anne Kirsch Foundation will hold a Garage and Bake Sale fundraiser on May 4 at 227 Elmwood Avenue in Glen Rock. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature new children’s clothing, toys, and games, and many gently-used items, including sports equipment. (Rain date: May 5.) The Julia Kirsch Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to serving the needs of disabled individuals and their families in Bergen County and beyond. This original musical revue will feature many favorite songs from Broadway. Directed by Glen Rock residents Linda Roth and Barbara Owen, the production also features Glen Rock residents Kenneth Gentner, Felicia Halpert, and Dennis Owen, and Wyckoff resident Brian Eller. Five Corners Theatre Company is a Glen Rock-based company known for its children and teen summer musical camps and productions. Students invited to discuss Gidwitz novels Middle school students are invited to discuss the Adam Gidwitz novels on Thursday, May 9. This 4 p.m. program will be held at the Glen Rock Public Library at 315 Rock Road. The discussion is in preparation of Gidwitz’s May 13 visit to Glen Rock Middle School. The author’s books include “A Dark & Grim Tale” and “In a Glass Grimmly.” Copies of his books are available at the reference desk. Seniors to sponsor trips The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club will host a bus trip to Mount Airy Lodge Casino in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 15. The group will depart from Wilde Park at 9 a.m. The cost of the trip is $28 for members and $30 for non members. Attendees will receive $25 in slots and $10 for food. The day will include a concert featuring the music of Elvis and Patsy Cline, and lunch with a one-hour open bar. Library offers computer classes The Glen Rock Library will present two technology classes in May. A class on Microsoft Word will be held on May 14 at 11 a.m. A class on Microsoft Excel is set for May 29 at 7 p.m. Registration is required. Podles’ encore was “The Lark” by Grigoras Dinicu, a Rumanian Gypsy said by some classically-trained instrumentalists to have been the greatest violinist of the mid-20th century. Podles was accompanied by background music from an audio system and CDs, but in some of his offerings his violin sounded like an entire orchestra. He holds a doctorate in performance and has performed as a soloist and orchestra player throughout Russia, Western Europe, and the United States, including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the 92nd Street YMCA. His performance brought verbal cheers and sustained applause from expert listeners and newcomers alike. Future performances, all at 2 p.m. at the Ridgewood Library, will include the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company on May 18, Lauren Longo on the Celtic Harp on May 19, and “Rave On” with the music of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and other 1950s rock and roll performers on June 2. “Rave On” will also play at the Glen Rock Public Library on May 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
