Ridgewood March 27, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 School budget includes $204 average tax increase by John Koster If the Ridgewood Board of Education’s 2013-14 budget is adopted at the polls in April, the tax impact would be an increase of $204 for the owner of a Ridgewood house assessed at the average of $687,364. The $96,485,774 total budget with a tax levy of $87,847,977, as recently approved by the state, includes a special revenue fund of $1,464,288. The total debt service of $3,733,973 will bring a tax levy of $3,239,342. The school board also approved an increase in the amount of $1,576 for the Ridgewood High School DECA trip to Anaheim, California, in October. The cost of the trip for 35 Ridgewood High School students and an additional chaperone, up from four to five, will now be $7,848. Teacher Danielle Wood was approved for a change of assignment from collaborative special education teacher in social studies at Ridgewood High School to a collaborative teacher of social students and lead teacher at Ridgewood High School with an increase in salary from $78,733 with a $300 career pathway increment of $82,970 and an additional $300 increment and a 0.05 ratio of $3,937 to cover extra time. Megan Galanti received a change in salary from $67,896 as a learning disabilities teacher-consultant at the Orchard School to $71,382 due to an upgrade in credential status. Patricia Polise has been upgraded from an inclusion special education classroom aide at the Hawes School at $16.16 per hour to an educational specialist at a salary of $51,583. She possesses a certificate of eligibility and will be enrolled in the provisional program. Charles Appel has been appointed assistant boys lacrosse coach with an additional of $5,571 to his regular salary as a teacher. Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, with sponsorship from the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, will host social mixers that include students from both district middle schools. Each evening includes music and dancing with DJ Sound Illusion, refreshments, and games. The program is open to village teens only, and a donation of $8, payable at the door, Middle school mixers announced is requested. The donations benefit the community center. An April 12 mixer is planned for sixth grade students; a seventh and eighth grade evening is set for April 19. Both mixers will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Anne Zusy Youth Center at 131 North Maple Avenue. Adult chaperones are needed. Contact the recreation office at (201) 670-5560 to volunteer.
