The program will be held at 10 a.m. in the Village Hall Community Center at 131 North Maple Avenue. Woyce specializes in New Jersey and New York regional history. On April 18, HILT will travel to the Westchester Broadway Theater in Elmsford, New York, to see “Guys and Dolls.” Lunch is included. The bus departs from Graydon Pool at 10 a.m. The cost is $53 for HILT members and $58 for non-members. Ridgewood residents who are 55 and up are invited to join Highlights in Leisure Time, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Monthly meetings include entertainment and/or informational presentations, followed by refreshments. Annual membership dues are $15. West Side plans Holy Week services West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood has announced its Holy Week schedule of services. The church will hold a 7:30 p.m. worship service on Maundy Thursday, March 28. The service will include the senior high choir. On Good Friday, March 29, a service of prayer will be held at 1 p.m. in the chapel. A service of Tenebrae with the chancel and youth choirs, readers, instrumentalists, and dance will be held at 8 p.m. The prelude will begin at 7:45 p.m. Festival services of worship with Holy Communion will be held at 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. on Easter Sunday. The services will include the chancel and senior high choirs, the Westminster Bell Choir, and Brass Ensemble. Preludes will begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m. All are welcome. Family Promise sponsors Hike or Bike benefit Family Promise of Bergen County will host a Hike or Bike in Ridgewood on April 21. This 1 p.m. event will be held rain or shine. Participants may register for a 15-mile bike ride through Ridgewood and neighboring towns, or to hike, bike, or trike a leisurely three miles through the streets of Ridgewood. The afternoon activities, which begin and end at Van Neste Square on Ridgewood Avenue, will wrap up with a picnic, clowns, games, food, balloons, candy, and much more. Family Promise of Bergen County, a Ridgewood-based nonprofit organization, has been sheltering homeless working families with children for over 25 years. Hauck offers ‘Let’s Get Acquainted’ Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck invites Ridgewood residents to share a light lunch and engage in an activity each month. As a newly-elected government official and liaison to the Ridgewood Community Center, Hauck will take this opportunity to get to know residents of the village. “Let’s Get Acquainted” programs will be held the first Thursday of each month, including April 4, May 2, and June 6, in the Patrick M. Mancuso Senior Lounge of the Community Center at 131 North Maple Avenue. The programs begin as noon, and activities will include brain teasers, pet therapy, memoirs and shared memories, and expert technology advice. During the month of April, the Hobbyists will hold a photo exhibit at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Gallery hours are 9 to 4 on weekdays. Hobbyists Unlimited is an outreach organization of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood whose purpose is to cultivate and expand the hobbies of retired men by engaging in ethical, cultural, educational, and charitable activities as may be of interest to any segment of the membership. The club is non-profit and non-political. Valley offers Diabetes Self-Management Program Valley Home Care is now registering participants for its Diabetes Self-Management Program. Program topics include learning to live with and manage diabetes, disease process, monitoring and use of blood glucose results, nutritional management, medication review, changing behavior, goal setting, complications, foot care, exercise, and community resources. The program, which is held monthly, is a four-week course with two-hour meetings once a week. The next course dates are April 3, 10, 17, and 24. All meetings are held at 7 p.m. in the Kraft Center at 15 Essex Road, Paramus. Prior to participating, registrants must complete a one-hour individual assessment with a diabetes educator. Many insurance companies, including Medicare, will cover this program as a benefit to their subscribers. The patient’s out- of-pocket cost will depend on the policy coverage and any limitations. Valley Home Care’s Diabetes Self-Management Program has received the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate. The American Diabetes Association believes that Valley Home Care’s program offers high-quality diabetes self-management education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. Parloff & Van Ness perform with RCB The Ridgewood Concert Band will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a concert featuring guest conductor Michael Parloff and pianist Paul Van Ness on April 5. Parloff is known in the area for his Parlance Chamber Concert Series. Van Ness will perform Stravinsky’s “Concerto for Piano and Winds,” which he first performed as a student at the Eastman Conservatory with the composer present. The concert program will also feature the RCB Trumpet Trio on Leroy Anderson’s classic “Bugler’s Holiday.” The concert will be held at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. The Hawthorne High School Band will open with a prelude performance at 7:30 p.m. and the RCB program will begin at 8 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $7 for students.
