Police department: Keep valuables concealed Parloff & Van Ness perform with RCB On March 6, two Ridgewood Board of Education employees from the George Washington Middle School reported that iPads had been stolen from their school classrooms. The thefts are under investigation by the Ridgewood Detective Bureau. The police have reminded residents that, with the return of warmer weather, residents need to take precautions to avoid becoming the victims of both car burglaries and home burglaries. Vehicles should be locked and items such as iPods, laptops, purses, wallets, and GPS devices should not be left in plain sight. The Ridgewood Concert Band will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a concert featuring guest conductor Michael Parloff and pianist Paul Van Ness on April 5. Parloff is known in the area for his Parlance Chamber Concert Series. Van Ness will perform Stravinsky’s “Concerto for Piano and Winds,” which he first performed as a student at the Eastman Conservatory with the composer present. The concert program will also feature the RCB Trumpet Trio on Leroy Anderson’s classic “Bugler’s Holiday.” The concert will be held at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. The Hawthorne High School Band will open with a prelude performance at 7:30 p.m. and the RCB program will begin at 8 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $7 for students. Tickets may be purchased at www.ridgewoodband.org or at the door. “Your home should also be secure and, when you are not home, try to make it appear that you are at home,” said Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward. “We have had a few homes entered at night that were not locked and items like wallets and laptops were taken. Please report suspicious activity to the police right away.” On March 8, Patrolman John Ward stopped a motor vehicle on Chestnut Street and determined that the driver had an outstanding warning issued by Glen Rock Municipal Court. The driver was transported to the Ridgewood Police Department and released after posting bail.
