Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • March 13, 2013 Area Bus collides with Jeep A NJ Transit bus collided with a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Rock Road and Ackerman Avenue in Glen Rock last week. No one was injured in the crash, but traffic on Rock Road and Ackerman Avenue was diverted for over one hour while the scene was cleared of both vehicles. The Jeep was removed from the scene by flatbed tow truck; the bus was parked disabled on side street awaiting the arrival of a NJ Transit mechanic to evaluate its integrity. Glen Rock PD personnel investigated the accident and provided traffic control. Also responding were personnel from the Glen Rock Fire Department, the Fair Lawn Fire Department, and the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps. (Photos courtesy of Boyd Loving.) Hawes crowns geography champ The 2012 Hawes Geography Bee took place in the Hawes School International Café, with lights dimmed and country flags representing the school’s rich cultural heritage hanging from the rafters. As the speakers blasted Ozzy Ozbourne’s ‘Crazy Train,’ each of the 14 fifth grade finalists exploded through a tunnel of cheering students as his or her picture was displayed on the large projector screen. Over seven rounds, finalists competed against each other in good spirit. The audience was amused as, between each round, geography-themed entertainment – such as Irish step dancing, geography jokes, and piano playing – allowed the judges time to tally up the scores until only two finalists remained: Meaghan Rossignol and Evan Rosenfeld. Sudden death was required, and the suspense was high as the final questions determined the 2012 Geography Bee champion: Rosenfeld.
