The children in the church’s Sunday school will be joined by children from Little Ivy Pre-school and others from the wider community. All children (up to age 12) are cordially welcome to join the fun. Refreshments will be served, and prize eggs will be awarded. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors. Felz to provide appraisals Antiques appraiser Jon Felz will be at Old Paramus Reformed Church on March 23 to offer appraisals to the public for a nominal fee. Felz, a certified appraiser who has been featured on “Antiques Roadshow,” is a member of the New England Appraisers Association. He has 30 years of experience with estate sales and auctions. Each person who attends is limited to two items for appraisal. The fee is $5 per item. Seating is limited and will be provided on a first come, first served basis. The doors will open at 12:30 for this event, which will be held between 1 and 4 p.m. Refreshments and baked items will be available for sale during the appraisal session. Learn about Ukrainian Easter Eggs The Women’s Guild of the Old Paramus Reformed Church will present “Ukrainian Easter Eggs Tell the Story” on April 3 at 1 p.m. This presentation will include a demonstration and an exhibit of these vivid masterpieces. Maria Klym and Joan Aliotta will lead the program. Devotions will be offered by Susan Robertson. The entire community is welcome to attend. Space historian to speak Space historian Joe Lennox will speak at Old Paramus Reformed Church at 7 p.m. on March 15. His interactive program celebrates space, science, history, and technology and its effect on the space program and all mankind. (Snow date: March 22.) Attendees should gather at Fellowship Hall, 660 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood at Route 17 South. All are welcome. The program is for ages six and up. Refreshments will be served. Included will be scale models of various spacecraft and launch vehicles. Lennox is the creator and curator of an extensive space history museum that will, in the future, belong to The Astronaut Hall of Fame in Kennedy Space Center. Infant & toddler program accepting registrations The Infant/Toddler Development Center located in the Glen School at 865 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood is accepting registrations for the 2013-14 school year. The ITDC was founded in 1983, and is a program of the Ridgewood Board of Education. The program meets the needs of children ages six weeks through kindergarten enrichment, with low child to staff ratios. The center is a fully-licensed day care/preschool facility and is staffed by certified teachers and a full-time nurse. Afternoon kindergarten enrichment is available, with busing for children who attend morning kindergarten in the Ridgewood Public Schools. Full-time and part-time hours are available. Church prepares for Holy Week Holy Week Services at Old Paramus Reformed Church will begin on Palm Sunday, March 24, at 10 a.m. The Hosanna Day family service will include palms and music. Interim Minister Reverend Phyllis Palsma will deliver the sermon. On Maundy Thursday, March 28, Reverend Palsma will officiate at the symbolic Seder service with Holy Communion served around tables in Fellowship Hall. This service will begin at 7:30 p.m. On March 29, the Good Friday service will include scripture readings, hymns, and prayers. The message for the 7 p.m. service is “The Way to the Cross.” At the closing of the service, the congregation will extinguish the candles and depart into darkness. On Easter Sunday, March 31, the congregation will celebrate the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Festival music will be performed by the choir, accompanied by organ and brass. The choir and congregation will close the service by singing “The Hallelujah Chorus” by Handel. The community is invited to participate in these services. Spring Plant Sale announced The Conservancy for Ridgewood Public Lands will hold a Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, May 4. The sale will be held at the Graydon Pool parking area from 9 a.m. to 3 pm. The group will accept orders through April 26. Annuals of the highest quality will be offered in flats, four-inch pots, 10-inch hanging baskets, and 12-inch combination hanging baskets. The locally grown plants will include all the old favorites and some new varieties in a huge selection of colors for planting in window boxes, containers, gardens, and seasonal displays. Order forms are available for individuals and groups. Delivery within the village is offered for a fee of $25. Newcomers host Mardi Gras Ball The Ridgewood Newcomers will host a Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, March 16. The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes. The event will feature food, an open bar, dancing, and special auctions. Tickets are $160 per couple.
