The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. Fox grew up in Glen Rock. He is a graduate of Don Bosco and Holy Cross, and has worked for the Chicago White Sox. On April 18, the club will launch its 2013 golf season at the recently renovated Meadows Golf Course in Lincoln Park. The men play on Thursday mornings through October. The Activities Club’s members are retired and semiretired men who are involved in social, athletic, educational, scientific, and volunteer activities. The group meets at the Community Church, 354 Rock Road in Glen Rock. Learn about house plants Dr. Susan Petro will present “Growing House Plants” at the March 19 meeting of the Glen Rock Garden Club. The club meets at 7:45 p.m. in the Glen Rock Municipal Annex Building located at 678 Maple Avenue. Dr. Petro will discuss choosing, feeding, watering, and repotting plants. The presentation will include a Power Point demonstration. Dr. Petro received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Cornell University, and teaches biology at Ramapo College of New Jersey. She holds certificates in plant systematics and field botany from the New York Botanical Garden. Garden club meetings are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Auxiliary hosts Card Party Luncheon The Glen Rock Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Annual Spring Luncheon and Card Party on Monday, March 25 at the municipal annex, 678 Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. The luncheon will begin at noon. Card games will follow. Door prizes will be awarded. This event is open to the public, both men and women. Tickets are $15 and may be ordered by contacting Ruth at (201) 444-1285. Clubs and bridge groups are encouraged to make table reservations. All proceeds will benefit the Valley Hospital’s programs and equipment needs. Seniors plan events The Glen Rock Seniors will host a Saint Patrick’s Lunch on March 20. This event will feature corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, and carrot cake. The cost is $18 for members and $20 for non-members. The group meets at 1 p.m. at the municipal annex located at 678 Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. On April 10, the seniors will visit Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see “Butterflies are Free.” Tickets to the play are $55 for members, and $65 for non-members. Preschool registration under way Registration for The Glen Rock Community School’s Terrific for Tots Preschool and Mom & Tot programs is under way in the GRCS office. The Tots Preschool is for children from 18 months to four years old. Children in the program will gain greater confidence and have a good start in developing positive attitudes toward school, teachers, and their classmates, while they develop skills intended to prepare them for their future school environment. Terrific for Tots is the only preschool affiliated with the Glen Rock School District. Children of all races, religions, and ethnicities are welcome. Two mornings a week, the preschool will offer a class for two-and-a-half-year-olds. The three-year-old class meets three days a week and is offered both in the morning and in the afternoon. The four-year-old class meets four days a week; both morning and afternoon classes are available. An optional add-on Lunch Bunch program is available. The Mom & Tot class is for toddlers who will be age 18 through 30 months by Oct. 1, 2013. Each toddler must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. This class is designed to encourage speech, motor, social, and emotional skills through play and group interaction. Boy Scout Troop 13 welcomes newcomers Glen Rock Boy Scout Troop 13 welcomes new members. The troop, which is open to boys ages 11 through 18, offers an engaging, activity-based experience with the goal of building character, citizenship, and healthy living development based on friendship, civic responsibility, and leadership. The 2013 schedule of activities include skiing, snowboarding, tubing, archery, zip-line aerial adventure, hiking, camping, summer camp, whitewater rafting, wilderness high-adventure, Hudson River sailing, and West Point football. Boy Scout Troop 13 of Glen Rock, founded in 1954 and chartered by the Community Church of Glen Rock, carries on the tradition of advancement with a focus on the Boy Scout motto of “Be Prepared.” Troop 13’s focus on the Boy Scout motto is exemplified through fun and engaging Troop activities and outings, consistent advancement through Eagle, and parent participation. Troop 13 meets Sundays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Community Church of Glen Rock School at 354 Rock Road.
