De Falco exhibits watercolors Artist Penny De Falco’s watercolors will be displayed at the Stable Art Gallery during the month of March. De Falco is a member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society and the Rehoboth Art League of Delaware. She has displayed her artwork in many juried exhibits and in private solo shows. An Artist’s Reception will be held on Sunday, March 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. All are welcome. The Stable Art Gallery is located at 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Viewing hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment. Call (201) 6705560. HILT announces March events Join Highlights in Leisure Time on March 7 for a Saint Patrick’s Day Social. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the Ridgewood Village Hall Community Center at 131 North Maple Avenue. Irish guitarist and singer Ian Gallagher will provide entertainment. On March 14, HILT will travel to the Colonial Inn in Norwood, for a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. The event features music, dancing, lunch, and unlimited beer, wine, and soda. The bus will depart from Graydon Pool at 11:15 a.m. and will return at approximately 4:30 p.m. The cost is $37 for HILT members and $42 for non-members. Garage & Bake Sale benefit set On Saturday, March 16, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel MOMs will sponsor a multi-home Garage & Bake Sale
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at 19 and 23 Hope Street in Ridgewood. The group is seeking donations for the sale. Donated items may be dropped off on March 15 at 23 Hope Street. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Nurturing Place in Jersey City, a child development center that provides assistance to women and children in crisis. For more information, call (201) 857-3196. Water Safety Instructor Course offered YWCA Bergen County is offering the American Red Cross Water Instructor Safety Course from March 28 through May 23. The course certifies individuals ages 16 years and older to teach American Red Cross swim lessons. Participants learn how to make lesson plans, teaching skills for all levels, and critiquing skills to correct swim strokes. Participants must pass a water skills test, which will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. The fee for the test is $10. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 2 p.m. The course fee is $400 and includes materials. Pre-registration is required. Educational program offered The Valley Hospital Community Health Education Department will host “Why Patient and Family Centered Care?” on Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m. This free program will be held at The Valley Hospital Conference Center, 223 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood. Ridgewood Recreation hosts events for seniors Ridgewood Recreation will host several special events for seniors. These programs are offered free of charge and are held at the Community Center located at 131 North Maple Avenue. On the first and third Monday of the month, enjoy Short Stories with Lady L. The Meet the Author program is held the second Monday of the month. On March 11, participants will meet Nancy Stern, author of “The Uncomplicated Gourmet.” Both Short Stories with Lady L and Meet the Author are held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Classic Movie Tuesday, sponsored by The Hobbyists Unlimited, is held the first Tuesday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Upcoming screenings include “Grand Illusion” (1937) on March 5, “The Informer” (1935) on April 2, and “Much Ado About Nothing” (1993) on May 7. Each class is $24 for six sessions. Ridgewood residents who are 55 and older are welcome. There is no cost to attend the knitting/crocheting program or to play card games.
