Michael Feeney serves as ‘police chief for a day’
he is a student, and where he showed his official police uniform to teachers and classmates. Hawes School Principal Paul Semendinger introduced Feeney to his fellow students as police chief for the day. The chief for a day program is sponsored by Ridgewood PBA Local 20. Feeney received and donned his summer police uniform before leaving home and received a police escort to Ridgewood Village Hall. After the stop at the Hawes School, which was a surprise, he rode behind a motorcycle escort to the Bergen County Courthouse where he posed for photographs with the young chiefs for a day from other communities, followed by a luncheon at the Landmark Restaurant. Feeney took his oath from Mayor Aronsohn very seriously, and when a reporter asked him how it felt to be police chief for a day, the youth smiled broadly and said, “VERY cool!” “We’ll explain to you later about the press,” Chief Ward said, but he was also smiling.

Michael Feeney took his oath as Ridgewood Police Chief for a Day from Mayor Paul Aronsohn as John Ward, the village’s police chief for every other day, and several officers looked on with approval. Nine year-old Feeney, son of Jack and Jill Feeney, was accompanied by his parents and his sister Cassie, short for Cassandra, as he took the oath at the Ridgewood
courtroom on the fourth floor of Ridgewood Village Hall last week. A half dozen police seniors were present, including Police Captain Jacqueline Luthcke and Police Lieutenant Glenn Enders, who helped coordinate the event. Feeney spent the morning inspecting police headquarters and made a side trip to the Hawes School, where
