All money, except for the credit card fees, will go to the bombing victims and their families. “Any donation is greatly appreciated, and will all help those impacted heal and be rehabilitated as best as possible after this act of terror,” Engle added. The young men set out from San Francisco on June 1 and took the Golden Gate Bridge as the first leg of their journey. They expect to trace a line through the horizontal center of the United States and finish in about 65 days. The anticipated route is about 4,300 miles, and both cyclists packed tents and other supplies on their bikes. So far, the trip has garnered $266 from friends in Glen Rock and anonymous donors, but the two young men hope to raise about $4,000 for their cause by the time they finish. Both men are experienced athletes and outdoorsmen. Engle, a student at the University of Maryland, has had many climbing and running experiences in California, Colorado, New York, and New England. He plans to run in the New York Marathon in November to honor the athletes and spectators of the Boston Marathon. Matheson attends Queens University and is involved in the Queens cycling and triathlon teams. He completed the Ironman event in Rhode Island and the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2012.
