Joint purchasing helps borough save money
by John Koster The Glen Rock Borough Council has approved a resolution to save money on landfill disposal of solid waste through a three-year contract with the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority. The authority will serve as the lead agency in joint purchasing for solid waste disposal. The utilities authority was able to obtain a bid for $65 per ton for three years, while the three bids received by the cooperative bid through the Borough of Ramsey led to a bidding range scale that started at a low of $66 for the first year but rose to $67, $70, or $72 for the last year of the three-year contracts. The Borough of Ramsey, however, served as the successful lead agency for the Northwest Bergen Cooperative Pricing System, and Glen Rock voted to accept the Glen Rock portion of the comprehensive bid to cover the resurfacing of portions of Delmar Avenue, Hillman

Avenue, Franklin Place, Beekman Place, Andover Terrace, Radburn Road, Grove Street, and Glen Avenue for $450,000 as part of the comprehensive multi-town resurfacing contract that totals $2,994,435. Glen Rock and a number of other northwest Bergen County towns, notably including the coalition of Wyckoff, Oakland, and Franklin Lakes (collectively known as WOLF) have been engaging in joint purchasing for a number of years for everything from road paving to trophies and T-shirts.
