Blood Drive scheduled Gary Stevens TaeKwonDo will sponsor a Glen Rock Community Blood Drive on Sunday, July 21. The drive will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 175 Rock Road. To schedule an appointment, call (201) 670-7263. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. Library to present ‘Henry V’ The Glen Rock Public Library will present an abridged version of William Shakespeare’s “Henry V” on Monday, July 29 at 7 p.m. This performance by The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s Next Stage Ensemble will benefit the Friends of the Glen Rock Library. The production is suitable for adults and children ages eight years and older. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $4 for Friends members. Budding authors wanted The Glen Rock Community School is offering two new programs for budding authors in grades six through eight. Both programs meet from 10 a.m. to noon at Glen Rock High School and are led by Glen Rock Middle School language arts teachers. Mighty Memoirs is a summer forum for self-discovery for students. Because memoir writing is rooted in emotion, it is the perfect genre for teen writers. Participants will discover how to focus their personal life experiences and give them literary purpose while finding their voice. Whether their life is filled with drama or is relatively simple, everyone has a story to tell, and every story is worth telling. This program will meet weekdays July 22 to Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Summer Poetry Workshop provides young authors with a unique opportunity to play with words and discover

Years later, after earning her MBA, she returned to music and studied flute with several highly respected professionals in the New York/ New Jersey metropolitan area. She owns and operates two businesses, is an adjunct professor at William Paterson University, and is currently studying music theory. Lieb traveled with The Ridgewood Concert Band on musical tours of China in 2008 and Brazil in 2009. Taylor comes from a musical family that includes relatives in the Metropolitan Opera and the LA/Portland/ Buffalo philharmonic orchestras. Taylor received piano training from Morton Estrin since age 8, and continued his classical musical studies at Case Western Reserve University and SUNY Stony Brook. He has been involved in multiple school productions and community orchestras as a piano soloist. In addition, he has been a rock-androll keyboard artist professionally and is a member of The Maccabeats, a local band composed primarily of Temple Israel congregants. Taylor frequently serves as a soloist and accompanist at Temple Israel musical events. The doors will open at 7:15 p.m. and the concert will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by a festive oneg (gathering with refreshments). Kabbalat Shabbat services will begin at 8:30. The suggested donation for the concert is $10. The final concert in Temple Israel’s Summer Music Friday series will feature synagogue members Irene Bressler on harp and Artie Bressler on woodwinds on Aug. 2. Temple Israel and JCC is located at 475 Grove Street in Ridgewood. It is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue with members from over a dozen Bergen County communities. Seniors plan trips The Glen Rock Seniors will travel to Ehrhardt’s on Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania on Aug. 22. The group will enjoy lunch and a live show, Rockin’ Renaissance. The cost to attend is $45 for members and $48 for non-members. On Sept. 18, the seniors will visit Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. The cost is $28 for members and $30 for non-members. Attendees will receive $25 for the slots and a $10 voucher for food.
