Area January 30, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Students planning Barron Live Life Fundraiser by John Koster A number of students from Glen Rock and Ridgewood will be performing in the Christopher Barron Live Life Fundraiser set for Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. This event, which will feature a variety of dance and vocal performances, will be held in the cafeteria at Glen Rock High School, 400 Hamilton Avenue in Glen Rock. A $5 donation will be accepted at the door. Jordan McMahon, a Glen Rock High School freshman, spearheaded the organization of the Live Life performance dedicated to Barron, who died of leukemia in 2007 at the age of nine. Asked whey he organized this event, McMahon said, “Because Christopher Barron was one of my best friends and I wanted to do something really special in his memory and for the foundation.” McMahon and Glen Rock sophomore Moyu Konishi and Ridgewood step dancers Julia Hefferon, Katie Gammer, and Bridget Callghan will perform the traditional Irish step dance. Dance selections will also feature contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, and ballet performances. Glen Rock senior Kacey Radtke will perform with dancers from Arts in Motion from Ridgewood, including Ana McDade, Sarah Clark, and Lauren Raffaelli. Glen Rock junior Matt Roy and seventh grader Claire Kwon will sing. The mission of the Christopher Barron Live Life Foundation is to honor the life of Barron and to instill his compassion and zest for life by providing underserved children with unique opportunities to live life and pursue interests about which Barron was most passionate. The foundation also seeks to empower children by encouraging them to earn such opportunities through dedication and hard work. The foundation’s flagship program, “Christopher’s Comic Book Inspirations,” was inspired by Barron’s love of comics, and is now in its fourth year at School 21 in Paterson. To date 300 students have participated in the comic book writing workshops. Christopher Barron Live Life Foundation is a public 501(C) (3) non-profit organization.
