On Jan. 30, the Glen Rock Borough Council will consider an ordinance that would eliminate the Glen Rock Auxiliary Police. Borough Administrator Lenora Benjamin said the borough expected to enter into a shared-service agreement with Ridgewood to cover whatever services the local auxiliary police perform. There was no comment from the public at the council meeting of Jan. 16 when the ordinance was introduced. Police sources said the elimination is not seen as a negative, but deferred all detailed comments to Glen Rock Police Chief Frederick Stahman, who was not available at press time. The Glen Rock Auxiliary Police presently have eight members on duty, according to police sources. The volunteers have been trained in an eight-week course at the Bergen County Institute of Law & Public Safety and assist sworn police officers in traffic and emergency situations. The unit was formed as a civil defense force during World War II. The council also introduced two ordinances with regard to funding. If adopted, one ordinance would provide for a $1,000 fee for a non-resident parking sticker. The other measure would allow authorized groups to use Glen Rock’s new electronic sign to advertise public service and public interest events for a fee of $25 per week. In other business, Christopher Montgomery was accepted as a new member of the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department. J. KOSTER
