Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • January 16, 2013 Area Interim superintendent to leave post in February by John Koster Glen Rock’s interim superintendent of schools, Raymond Albano, announced at the annual reorganization meeting that he will resign from his post on Feb. 8. “My decision to resign was reached after much deliberation and careful consideration,” Albano said on Jan. 7. “I have determined that I cannot give the required time and commitment to the position due to personal and family responsibilities. “Glen Rock is a quality district in which there is much to be proud,” Albano said, noting that he resigned with regret. “Coming from a community of high expectations, its students perform well -- under the instruction and guidance of committed and dedicated professionals. It is also fortunate to have the team of administrators it does, and a supportive board of education.” He extended his thanks and appreciation to the board members for their support and confidence in him. He added, “Your dedication and commitment to your role as board members is commendable.” Albano, who has served for many years as a senior Ridgewood’s Board of Education Business Administrator Angelo De Simone will be retiring from the district and his career in school finance on June 30. “I’m done,” De Simone said good-naturedly. “I’m just going to go home and put my feet up.” De Simone, who turned 65 on Jan. 7, holds an undergraduate degree from Fordham University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked for 20 years in corporate computer operations with TRW, the credit company, and then entered the field of education. De Simone worked for nine years as an assistant business administrator in the two-school Morris district, and then worked as a business administrator in Hawthorne for nine years before coming to Ridgewood eight years ago. He said the Ridgewood job has been challenging. He is widely respected by the school board and staff for helping to produce budgets that were acceptable to the taxpayers without detracting from Ridgewood’s statewide reputation for excellence in education. At the most recent meeting, the Ridgewood Board of Education retained Kevin McOwen as a mathematics teacher for Ridgewood High School at a salary of $51,538 class 1, step 1, pro-rated effective through June 30. J. KOSTER De Simone to retire from district administrator or interim superintendent in various districts, mostly in the Pascack Valley area, worked in Glen Rock for eight months. The board will continue to search for a full-time superintendent and was most recently said to be well along in the interviewing process. The board elected Sheldon Hirschberg as board president for 2013 and elected Barbara Steuert as board vice president. Both are experienced trustees with outside experience in business management and a wide range of community activities. Angelo De Simone
