January 9, 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 5 Glen Rock Award-winning pianist to perform concert Glen Rock High School senior and accomplished pianist Jae Young Kim will perform a free piano recital on Jan. 12. The 7 p.m. performance will be held in the high school choir room located at 400 Hamilton Avenue in Glen Rock. Before moving from Korea to the United States in 2011, Kim attended Seoul Arts High School. He has performed in many venues, including Kumho Arts Hall, Leipzig Conservatory of Music, Yamaha Hall, and Carnegie Hall. He received many prizes in Korea and the U.S., including second prize at the Korean Radio Broadcasting New York International Music Competition in 2012, fifth prize at the 14th Oberlin International Young Artists Piano Competition in 2008, and grand prize at the Teenage Piano Competition in 2005. He recently won first prize at the Music Teachers National Association New York State Senior Piano Competition, which led him to compete in the Eastern States Division Competition as a New York state representative. He studies piano with Douglas Humphreys, piano chair of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. The Tea at Two Book Club at Glen Rock Public Library will discuss Ethan Canin’s “America America” on Jan. 22. This group meets at the library at 315 Rock Road at 2 Discussion of ‘America America’ set p.m. No registration is necessary, and all are invited. Tea and cookies will be served.
