Valenti comes to Glen Rock from the Emerson School District, where she has been serving as principal of Emerson Junior/Senior High School since 2006. Concurrently, she serves as a professor in the Middle College program at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she co-teaches an arts and humanities course for collegebound juniors and seniors. Before she began working in Emerson, Valenti worked in the Englewood School District’s Dwight Morrow High School. She was supervisor from 2001-02, assistant principal from 2002-05, and principal in 2005-06 school year. Earlier in her career, she was a teacher of art at the elementary and high school levels. Valenti entered public school administration after 23 years of teaching experience in the New Jersey public schools. She has received three New Jersey Governor’s Awards and is co-founder of the Hands & Mind Institute. She is also co-author of “A Curriculum Armature,” which was published by the Art Educators of New Jersey. Valenti was named 2012 Visionary Principal of the Year by the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association for her work in raising test scores, reducing bullying, and enhancing 21st century skills. She was recognized for creating an environment where teachers feel empowered to try new things, share their best practices with colleagues, and feel supported from every direction. Last year, she also received the National Association of Secondary School Principals New Jersey State Principal of the Year award. That program annually honors secondary school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students and have demonstrated exemplary contributions to the profession. (continued on page 10) Paula A. Valenti, Ed.D. The Glen Rock Board of Education has approved the appointment of Paula A. Valenti, Ed.D. as superintendent of schools. The announcement was made last week. Dr. Valenti replaces David Verducci, Ph.D. who retired from the position June 30, 2012. Valenti will begin her service to the district on or about March 1 at an annual salary of $157,500. This will be Valenti’s first time serving as chief school administrator. The post had been held by Interim Superintendent of Schools Raymond J. Albano, who stepped down effective Feb. 8. Until Valenti takes the helm, the district will operate under the leadership of Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Kathleen Regan, who was named interim superinten-
