Participants are invited to help prepare recipes, sample culinary creations, experience vegetables in their raw form, and cast a vote on how they liked the recipes. The program’s mission is to teach kids healthy eating habits and a love for vegetables. Classes will be held at the Stable on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. The five classes will run from March 6 to April 3. The fee is $95. Chinese language classes available Ridgewood Parks & Recreation and the Language Workshop for Children will offer classes in Chinese to students in kindergarten through third grade beginning March 25. Young children absorb a new language in an immersion environment filled with exciting and age appropriate action games, visual aids, vocabulary-building songs, and other activities. Register for nursery school Registration for the 2013-14 school year has begun at the YWCA Bergen County Nursery School. In September, this program will be relocating from Ridgewood to the YWCA Early Learning Center at 98 Pleasant Avenue in Upper Saddle River. Classes for children ages two-and-a-half to four will be offered weekdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m., with extended day options to 1 or 2:30 p.m. “Play with Me” is a weekly class for children age 12 months through two-anda-half years and an adult. Sessions are held from 9 to 11 a.m. The YWCA’s nursery school program fosters each child’s intellectual, social, and physical development in a safe, nurturing environment. The structured early learning curriculum, taught by experienced New Jersey certified teachers, is designed to provide learning challenges and promote self-confidence. Small class sizes ensure personalized attention. The program is New Jersey State licensed. The Early Learning Center is a secure location that features fully equipped early childhood classrooms plus enhanced features like an onsite registered nurse, a dedicated early childhood library and art studio, and a large indoor gym. Lenten opportunities offered The First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood has announced its series of Lenten events. On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the church will host a Lenten worship at noon followed by a light lunch. The Thursday, Feb. 21 soup supper served at 5 p.m. will be followed by an intergenerational program from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 24, a 10 a.m. worship service will be held and One Great Hour of Sharing will begin with a guest speaker. Cellist Emma Schmiedecke and pianist Chorong Park will perform a recital on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. The Feb. 27 noon Lenten worship in the chapel will be followed by a light lunch. On Thursday, Feb. 28, the soup supper at 5 p.m. will be followed by the intergenerational program “The Young Jesus in the City.” All are welcome.
