Wright’s book chronicles the Meadowlands’ development from its dark days as a landfill to its environmental recovery. The club meets at 1:30 p.m. at the Community Church located at 354 Rock Road in Glen Rock. The club will celebrate its 25th anniversary on April 25. A luncheon and dance will be held at the Brownstone in Paterson. Irish Pub Night features Celtic Cross band The Academy of Our Lady’s Father’s Guild will host an Irish Pub Night featuring the band Celtic Cross on Saturday, March 9. The event will be held from 7 to 11:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium at 180 Rodney Street in Glen Rock. Admission is $50 per person and includes live music, light pub fare, and beer. Selected brews will be on hand, but attendees are welcome to bring their own wine and spirits. A special auction fundraiser will be held as part of this event, and Gold Sponsorship tables will be available for $600 for a table of 10. To purchase tickets, visit www.academyofourlady.org. Preschool registration under way Registration for The Glen Rock Community School’s Terrific for Tots Preschool and Mom & Tot programs is under way in the GRCS office. The Tots Preschool is for children from 18 months to four years old. Children in the program will gain greater confidence and have a good start in developing positive attitudes toward school, teachers, and their classmates, while they develop skills intended to prepare them for their future school environment. Terrific for Tots is the only preschool affiliated with the Glen Rock School District. Children of all races, religions, and ethnicities are welcome. Two mornings a week, the preschool will offer a class for two-and-a-half-year-olds. The three-year-old class meets three days a week and is offered both in the morning and in the afternoon. The four-year-old class meets four days a week; both morning and afternoon classes are available. An optional add-on Lunch Bunch program is available. The Mom & Tot class is for toddlers who will be age 18 through 30 months by Oct. 1, 2013. Each toddler must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. This class is designed to encourage speech, motor, social, and emotional skills through play and group interaction. Learn about ‘Gardening with Bulbs’ Master Gardener Wiebke Hinsch will present a slide program, “Gardening with Bulbs,” at the Glen Rock Garden Club’s Feb. 19 meeting. This 7:45 p.m. session will be held at the Glen Rock Municipal Annex Building at 678 Maple Avenue. Hinsch has been an active member of the Bergen County Master Gardeners since 2001. All are welcome. News for borough seniors The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock, chaired by Doris Ciaramella, will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the municipal building located at Harding Plaza. Library offers Writing Lab for students The Glen Rock Public Library will offer a Writing Lab for students in grades six through 12. Participants will receive assistance with essays and research assignments. Sessions will be held the first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Teen Librarian Jennifer Lemke Lemke, an experienced English teacher, writing tutor, and academic coach, will provide the support. Bob Leibow’s sculptures (one of which is pictured above) are now on display at the Glen Rock Library, where they will remain throughout the month of February. Leibow’s work is predominately made up of driftwood, found objects, and broken ceramics. To view the exhibit, visit the library at 315 Rock Road during regular business hours. Seniors plan events The Glen Rock Seniors will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 27 to play bingo. There will be prizes and there is no charge to play. Cake and coffee will be served. On March 20, the group will host a Saint Patrick’s Lunch. This event will feature corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, and carrot cake. The cost is $18 for members and $20 for non-members. The group meets at 1 p.m. at the municipal annex located at 678 Maple Avenue in Glen Rock. On April 10, the seniors will visit Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see “Butterflies are Free.” Tickets to the play are $55 for members, and $65 for non-members. Lunch and bus transportation are included. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 9:30 a.m.
