George I. Dykstra of Pompton Lakes died Feb. 3. He was 91. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and he earned a master’s degree in education at the University of Illinois in 1950. He taught science for 11 years in Springfield, Pequannock, and Glen Rock schools. Before retiring in 1984, he was the principal at Wesley D. Tisdale School in Ramsey for 24 years. He was a member of Pompton Reformed Church for over 50 years. He is survived by his children Tom Dykstra of Rochester, Michigan and Jill Laux of Clifton, two grandchildren, his twin brother Gerald of Primghar, Iowa, and his friend Betty Artsma of Franklin Lakes. He was predeceased by his siblings Frances Dykstra, Harold Dykstra, and Carolyn Kohlman. Arrangements were made by Richards Funeral Home in Riverdale. Memorial donations may be made to Pompton Reformed Church, 59 Hamburg Turnpike, Pompton Lakes, NJ. Joseph Gitto Jr. of Allendale, formerly of Ridgewood, died Feb. 2. He was 59. He was a graduate of Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, New York and Villanova University. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, and held a master’s degree in taxation. He was an accredited estate planner and was the recipient of the 2011 Five Star Wealth Manager award by New Jersey Monthly Magazine. He was a certified public accountant and a tax partner with Becher, Della Torre, Gitto & Company in Ridgewood since 1989. Previously he had worked at several large accounting firms. He was president of the Estate Planning Council of Bergen County. He was a coach for the Ridgewood Maroons Girls Soccer Club for many years, and for Allendale Recreation Soccer. He is survived by his wife Linda, his daughters Jennifer Gitto and Karen Gitto Rutherford, both of Hoboken, and Allison Gitto of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his parents Joseph and Joan Gitto, and his siblings Paul Gitto, Donald Gitto, and Claire Pulsifer. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Gertrude Haderthauer, nee Narzi, of Ridgewood, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, and Whiting, died Feb. 3. She was 87. She was born in Germany, and was an employee of U.S. Trust Company for 25 years. She was a volunteer at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. She is survived by her son Walter, daughter-in-law Diane, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. formerly of Hillsdale, died Feb. 4. He was 90. He was born in Visakhapatnam, India and came to the United States in 1995. He is survived by his wife Edna (Rajaratnam) Harding, his children Nalini Bethala, M.D., Rajini Comfort, and Malini Harding, and his granddaughter Samira Ruth Bethala. Arrangements were made by Becker Funeral Home in Westwood. William J. Hayes Jr. of Glen Rock died Feb. 3. He was 79. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Saint Ann’s Academy in New York, and earned a degree in economics from City College in New York, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Nu Chapter. Prior to retiring in 1986 after 25 years of service with the Continental Can Company in New York, he obtained the position of international credit manager. He was a parishioner of Saint Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock. He was a daily communicant and a Eucharistic minister with the pastoral team where he served Valley Hospital for more than 35 years. He was a volunteer with Several Sources Shelters in Ramsey and other foundations. He served on the board of directors with the Meals on Wheels Program and was a member of the Glen Rock Activities Club. He is survived by his wife Maureen (McCurdy) Hayes, his children Brianne Hayes Haase and William Drew Hayes, 11 grandchildren, and his sister Carol Noonan. He was raised in California, and attended Saint Ignatius Preparatory School and the University of San Francisco. He had been a marketing executive with Pfizer Labs and Beecham, Inc. He is survived by his wife Mary Grace, his children Lawrence, Leslie O’Neil, and Terese Tewalt, six grandchildren, and one niece. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. He retired from the IBM Corporation, and was working as a postal clerk in the Ho-Ho-Kus Post Office. He is survived by his wife Linda (nee Guido), his children Vincent H. Jr. and Victoria Lynn, and his brother David. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Terence Joseph O’Brien of Lincoln Park died Feb. 3. He was 61. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a graduate of Glen Rock High School. Prior to retiring, he was a chef with Hackensack University Medical Center. He is survived by his siblings Timothy O’Brien, Kevin O’Brien,

Ann Schwietering, nee Fanning, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Ridgewood, died Feb. 4. She was 72. She is survived by her husband Henry G. Schwietering of Naples, Florida, her daughters Karen Schwietering of Cliffside Park, Rhea Begeman of LaGrange, Illinois, Holly Carapella of Tampa, Florida, and Kelly Schwietering of Monmouth Junction, six grandchildren, and her sisters Eileen Markiewicz and Agnes Klein. Arrangements were made by Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee. William Edgar Strakosch of Falmouth, Massachusetts, formerly of Ho-Ho-Kus, Ridgewood, and Cheshire, Connecticut, died Jan. 18. He was 88. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Willard Elementary School and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1943. He worked for Yegan Associates during the ‘50s and into the early ‘60s. He purchased and operated Countryside Volkswagen and Lincoln Mercury in Torrington, Connecticut. In 1972, he became the owner of WES Cadillac Oldsmobile in Waterbury, Connecticut. He owned and operated this business until he retired in 2002. He was named president of the Tri-State Cadillac Advertising Group, and held this position for a number of years. He is survived by his children William Strakosch of Middlebury, Connecticut, Nancy Strakosch-Gross from Grandview-on-Hudson, New York, and Amy Strakosch-Moniz from Sandwich, Massachusetts, and eight grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a doctor’s wife. She had been a member of the First Reformed Church of Ridgewood, and the West Side Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her children Robert Vermeulen, David Vermeulen, Joanne Dressing, and Maryann Balsly, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Abram Vermeulen, MD. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Paramus.
