The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Glen Rock Library, located at 315 Rock Road. Roberto’s workshop will cover the basics of applying for financial aid, scholarships, and grants. On Feb. 12, the library will present a technology class about selected Internet resources, including the new BCCLS catalog. The class will be held at 11 a.m. Participants will learn about useful Internet programs The library will offer a Writing Lab for students in grades six through 12. Participants will receive assistance with essays and research assignments. Sessions will be held the first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Teen Librarian Jennifer Lemke Lemke, an experienced English teacher, writing tutor, and academic coach, will provide the support. The event will be held at the Brownstone in Paterson. The club’s members are retired and semi-retired men who are involved in social, athletic, educational, and scientific activities. The group meets at the Community Church at 354 Rock Road in Glen Rock at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month. News for borough seniors The Senior Citizen Advisory Committee of Glen Rock, chaired by Doris Ciaramella, will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the municipal building located at Harding Plaza. Learn to cook hara bhara Join Lakshmi Ramesh and Kristen Breen in cooking hara bhara, Indian cuisine’s magical combination of spices and seasonings with vegetables, yogurt, chutney, and pickles. This instructional program will be held at the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, on Thursday, Feb. 7. Ramesh and Breen will demonstrate how to make a complete meal from appetizer to dessert. Fourth of July Committee seeks volunteers The committee for the Glen Rock Fourth of July Parade, now in its 75th year, is seeking volunteers to assist with the 2013 event. Committee members are needed for judging, gathering donations of prizes, developing the printing and mailing of tickets, maintaining the Facebook page, and collaborating with local organizations. To learn more, e-mail glenrockparade@gmail.com Kindergarten registration begins The Glen Rock School District will hold its kindergarten registration for September 2013 at the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, on March 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on March 6 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The school district encourages families to take this opportunity to secure library cards for their children. Official registration packets, including residency and age requirements, health forms, and additional information, should be downloaded from www.glenrocknj.org using the Parents/Students tab to reach the Registration Information link. Additional information is available by contacting any of the elementary schools at (201) 445-7700. For the convenience of all families, no appointments are necessary. All registrations will be treated equally, with no “first come, first served” preference given. A child’s school placement is determined through a process that seeks to balance enrollment figures among the four elementary schools, taking into consideration the presence of siblings. Families will be notified of their child’s assignment by June 1. Kindergarten registration is open to all resident children who will turn five years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2013. School administrators and nursing personnel will be on hand to answer questions. Parents are asked to complete all forms prior to registration and to bring appropriate original proofs of residency and birth date to expedite the process. Two proofs of residency must be presented, including either a deed or rental agreement, along with a driver’s license, utility bill, or tax bill. Proof of the child’s identity and age may include an original birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport. Kindergarten orientation meetings will be scheduled before the opening of school. Updated information will be posted on the district website. Interested families will also be able to register for the Glen Rock Community School’s Kindergarten Plus enrichment program at the same time. Registration for all children entering the district in September 2013 will be held May 20 at the Glen Rock Public Library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn about ‘Gardening with Bulbs’ Master Gardener Wiebke Hinsch will present a slide program, “Gardening with Bulbs,” at the Glen Rock Garden Club’s Feb. 19 meeting. This 7:45 p.m. session will be held at the Glen Rock Municipal Annex Building at 678 Maple Avenue. Hinsch has been an active member of the Bergen County Master Gardeners since 2001. All are welcome.
