April 17. 2013 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 9 The Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation, an authorized American Red Cross provider, will offer the certification classes Waterfront Lifeguard Training and Waterfront Lifeguard Bridge and Recertification Course this spring and summer. Classes are open to participants ages 15 and up. Classes will be held at Graydon Pool, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Waterfront Lifeguard Bridge/Recertification runs for 15 hours and attendance is mandatory at all sessions. The class will meet May 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $150. Lifeguard training & recertification offered Waterfront Lifeguard Training, a 32hour class, requires participants to pass a fitness and endurance test set for July 1 at 10 a.m. Participants must swim 550 yards, tread water legs only (arms over head), and retrieve a submerged object. The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 a.m. The course runs from July 2 through 31. Educator honored Eileen McCann, a Ridgewood Early Developmental (RED) Program Preschool Special Needs teacher, received the New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children 2013 Teacher of the Year Award at NJCEC’s Annual Conference, held at Ramapo College. The award was presented by NJCEC officers Barry Schwartz and Dr. Pamela Lowry.
