Participants may register for a 15-mile bike ride through Ridgewood and neighboring towns, or to hike, bike, or trike a leisurely three miles through the streets of Ridgewood. The afternoon activities, which begin and end at Van Neste Square on Ridgewood Avenue, will wrap up with a picnic, clowns, games, food, balloons, candy, and much more. Family Promise of Bergen County, a Ridgewood-based nonprofit organization, has been sheltering homeless working families with children for over 25 years. Hike or Bike event is this week Outstanding volunteer Jiwon (Karen) Noh has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the Corporation for National & Community Service. The award was given in recognition and appreciation of Noh’s commitment to strengthening the nation and making a difference through volunteer service. A congratulatory letter from President Obama was included with the award. Noh is pictured with Guidance Counselor Margret Friedrich and Principal Tom Gorman. As part of its comprehensive continuum of care for patients who have suffered a stroke, The Valley Hospital Stroke Center offers a Stroke Support Group that provides a positive forum for stroke survivors and their caregivers dealing with life issues after a stroke. The group is coordinated by a licensed social worker. The program often includes guest speakers, some of whom include neurologists, registered dietitians, physical and occupational therapists, and other Valley health care providers and physicians. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month in The Valley Hospital Board Room at 223 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood. New members are always welcome.
