Before retiring in 1984, she worked for the Rag Shop in Hawthorne and Nabisco in Fair Lawn. She is survived by her daughter Irene Alvarez and two grandchildren. Martha Urish Glaser of Ridgewood, formerly of Palisades, New York and Old Tappan, died April 8. She was 82. She attended Douglass College and earned a master’s degree in history at New York University. She had taught at Union Community College, was a writer at Volvo, and an editor for Medical Economics and Drug Topics Magazine. She founded a Planned Parenthood Chapter, and was most recently active with the Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company. She is survived by her children Thomas Glaser of Demarest, Laura Donkin of Bethesda, Mary- Muriel Frances Alvarez land, and Marjorie Sommer of Ridgewood; and her grandchildren Natalie and Rachel Glaser, Michael and Jacob Donkin, Alex and Will Sommer. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Walzer of Boynton Beach, Florida; her beloved Roy Lucas of Ridgewood; and his children Craig Lucas, Alison Lucas, Nicole, Evan Lucas; and grandchildren Daniel and Gabrielle Lucas, Lucas and Max Haimes. Robert H. “Bob” Hoffman of Ridgewood, formerly of Hawthorne, died April 4. He was 87. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked as an insurance agent and manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Glen Rock for many years. He served as president of the Ridgewood Art Institute from 1976-1980. He is survived by his wife Celestine M. “Murph” Hoffman; his children Robert A. Hoffman, William “Billy” Hoffman, and Diane Murray; and his stepchildren John B. McRae, Helen Traveny, and Michael Clarke McRae. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Edward J. McDonald of Ridgewood, formerly of Bayside, New York, died April 6. He was 73. He served in the United States Army National Guard and Reserves during the Vietnam Conflict. He began his career in information technology at New York University, and worked for over 25 years in the banking industry, retiring as vice president of information technology at The Chase Manhattan Bank. He was a parishioner of Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. He is survived by his wife Ann Roy McDonald, his daughters Alison McDonald and Beth McDonald Maratea, two grandchildren, and his sisters Eleanor Courtney, Eileen Mungavin, and Mary Scarda. McGuire of Ridgewood, formerly of Newburgh, New York, died April 5. He was 48.
