Nature & gardening club available Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, along with volunteers from the Women Gardeners of Ridgewood, will offer its new session of “Green” Kids, a nature and gardening club. The spring workshops will include new adventures and projects. Participants will learn about plantings, seedlings, herbs, butterflies, worms, composting, flower arranging, and more. The club is open to students in grades three through five and meets at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood, on April 17 and 24, and May 1, 8, and 15. School hosts Gigantic Garage Sale Ridgewood’s Orchard Elementary School will host a Gigantic Garage Sale on Saturday, May 11. The sale, which will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held rain or shine. Families from the Orchard community have donated hundreds of “treasures” from their homes to be sold at this fundraising event for the school. Items for sale will include children’s clothing, sporting goods, toys, infant gear, costumes, household items, books, furniture, and jewelry. The event will include a Bake Sale with homemade and gourmet store goodies for a mid-morning or afternoon snack. Orchard School is located at 230 Demarest Street in Ridgewood. Annual Spring House Tour slated The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will sponsor its 16th Annual Spring House Tour on Thursday, May 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tour, which will feature homes located in and around Ridgewood, is the largest fundraiser hosted by the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community. Last year, approximately 1,000 people participated in the house tour, which netted over $35,000 for charities that serve women and children. The club awarded grants to local charities, including Children’s Aid and Family Services, Camp Sunshine, Oasis, the Daniel Jordan Fiddle Founda-
tion, and the Social Services Association of Ridgewood. Tickets for this year’s tour are $45 per person. The cost is tax-deductible. Tickets are available at www.ridgewoodwomansclub.com, and at the clubhouse located at 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. Tickets will also be available the week before the tour at various merchants in Ridgewood, including Mango Jam, Town & Country Apothecary, Backyard Living, Goffle Brook Farm, Karma Organic Spa, and Pink Bungalow. Russell to address genealogists On April 22, Judy Russell, JD, will address the Genealogical Society of Bergen County. Russell will discuss how to research original documents at a local courthouse. Learn how to prepare for a visit, what to expect, what to request, and proper courthouse courtesy. The program will be held at 7 p.m. at Ridgewood Public Library located at 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. The society’s meetings are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.njgsbc.org. MOMs group hosts brunch OLMC MOMs Group will host its Annual May Brunch on May 1 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, One Passaic Street in Ridgewood. Members and non-members are invited. The event will begin at a Mass at 9:15 a.m. Brunch will follow. The cost to attend is $15. Child care is offered at a small extra fee. The church invites the community to a free square dance on April 20. The dance will be held in Fellowship Hall, 660 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood, from 7 to 10:30 p.m., and will be called by Paul Ingis. Beginners are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Wine, dessert, and coffee, all provided by local vendors, will be available before the shows and during intermission. The program begins at 8 p.m. Dessert and wine will be served when the doors open at 7 p.m. Chapin’s five-decade career has included 23 albums and three Grammy Awards. As a music-maker, Chapin has
maintained two long and productive parallel careers, both as a highly respected contemporary folk artist and as a pioneer in the field of children’s music. In addition to his work as a recording artist and concert performer, Chapin has acted on Broadway, and has worked extensively in films, television, and radio. The Unitarian Society is located at 113 Cottage Place. Summer Day Camp available Children are welcome to register for Ridgewood’s Summer Day Camp. This program will open July 2 and run through Aug. 9. Children who will be entering grades one through six will enjoy arts and crafts, organized games, swimming, special events, and optional trips. Camp will be held at The Stable, Graydon Pool, Maple Park, Veteran’s Field, the Community Center at Ridgewood Village Hall, and Leuning Park, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants should bring a bag lunch and beverage. Bus transportation from village locations will be available to all. The registration fee is $525 for Ridgewood children and $700 for non-resident children. The fee includes two camp T-shirts and optional bus transportation. All campers must possess a 2013 Graydon Pool membership badge. Visit www.ridgewoodnj.net/graydon for details.
